Give the lad a chance if he gets it. Bromby and partners seem like no mugs. Done a good retained list. I'm happy they have gone a different route. UTP

If it is going to be Cattermole, I don’t understand how that fits with this quote from with Featherstone was announced as stepping down:

“Following a thorough review of our football operations conducted by Bromby & Partners, we have taken the decision to move in a specific direction in terms of our first-team manager profile, and at this stage in Nicky’s career development, he does not fit that profile.”

I took that to mean someone with more experience and hopefully proven success with other clubs, Cattermole has even less experience than Featherstone!

Featherstone wanted to be Manager and have a say in recruitment.
I think the title will be Head Coach.

Crikey his managerial career makes Fevs look like Brian Clough. Looks like he's good company for a night on the piss though.

That is the only info I could find as well. What would make Bromby take a punt on him. Curious.

Every manager has to start somewhere so why not here for Cattermole. I think he may be just the right person for the job.

Would seem strange to take a punt on him after binning Fev because he wasn't the right man at this stage of his career. Surely Bromby will be looking for someone who's got managerial credentials rather than an absolute novice?

I'd rather have John Askey back in charge.
Don't think he should have been sacked in the first place, given the shocking defence at his disposal

From another Forum
Hearing Matt Hamshaw was one of the other candidates on the last round shortlist

His record is poor.

Makes you wonder what kind of contract is on offer and what is expected of the candidates. The more detail that emerges the more worrying the potential outcome.

The very last thing that we need is to select a very dubious candidate in order to 'give him a break'. As for being a 'disciplinarian', he is likely to piss off the players and spend a lot of his time watching from the stand.
Where is the evidence that he would likely fit the bill as a player/coach or manager let alone lead a NL club to promotion in his initial season? I find it hard to believe that the owners are even considering such an appointment. Hopefully It's either fake news or a distraction from the actual target(s).

Everything on this thread is hypothetical, We all have opinions.
Sometimes a coach, player needs a break to prove their worth, So i for one would be willing to 'give him a break'
A lot of ,If not all the names doing the rounds would not come to the north east, Shitty arses stuck in their comfort zone.
And some who people have touted One in particular, Would have been a massive gamble imo.

Not saying Cattermole is the answer and if given a chance will probably make mistakes.

But these guys were given the chance.
Mike Williamson and Rob Elliot didnt either and Defoe at Woking

Haven’t we had several seasons of giving managers a break…?
Can we have someone with a proven track record….?

It didn't sound 'hypothetical' yesterday when Cattermole's appointment was (allegedly) imminent and even reported by the Mail, Sunderland and Northern Echo, although the latter generally only mention Pools when it's perceived as bad news for obvious reasons. You are correct, everyone has their opinion and mine (and others) is that we could and should do much better than that. Even under Raj we managed to attract some high profile managers with a decent track, even if most of them failed miserably at Pools. Not sure who the One you are referring to is but Cattermole would most certainly also represent a massive gamble. It is essential that we hit the ground running next season - and maintain the momentum - so no place for a rookie - but that's only my opinion of course.

We did alright with Turner who'd never managed anywhere previously. I think he was Wolves (?) U21 coach before he came here and he brought some promising youngsters and some excellent experienced players to the club as we started on an upward curve.
Doesn't mean Cattermole would be the same, but every managerial appointment is a gamble isn't it?

Darren Sarll was a disciplinarian and was hated by the players and the fans. Lee Cattermole had a poor disciplinary record in his playing days and also in his personal life . These sort of guys are a big gamble . However, sometimes fear motivates . I personally wouldn’t go there

According to Goffy on his FB page he said it’s a done deal, he will be Head Coach just like they have at Sunderland and won’t be responsible for signing players.

Reckon it would of been already announced if it was a done deal.

Should just make 1 of the Bromby 3 a proper Manager.

MSM have all said it’s a done deal, Talksport saying Steve Agnew to be his assistant alongside Gary Liddle, the only place it hasn’t been announced is the OS. Possibly LS coming over to announce it officially and hold a press conference ?

doubt he is nowhere on the list of any poolie who wants him as manager. its going to be a harder job for him than some others i feel. its football and there will be some about who cannot wait for him to fail. if he does well it will not be him who has done it but the players themselves. he could fail or succeed by the type of player brought in.

Cannot wait for him to fail

Surely your not referring to Pools fans there.
I'm not really bothered what other clubs fans think about the situation.
UTP.
