The Poolie Bunker

Aye, down the Rec on a Sunday morning. Happy days.

So true

Funny thing is some people say it’s brilliant now for choice of food as there’s all that choice and it must have been boring back in the day when all there was was British food…cheeky twats.
, I loved Sundays at my grans home baked buns (she called them busters) with eggs crispy bacon and black pudding inside for Breakfast Full Sunday dinner, she baked Sunday afternoon ……. for tea egg and bacon pies, sausage rolls Apple pies and curd cake…bubble and squeak for supper.

You must have been a right fat b****** kid after eating all that scran Snowy ?

That explains why they called me ‘gannet’
When you think though, you didn’t put weight on.because all kids were naturally active, walking biking or the luxury of the bus…but there was no endless processed shite to eat between meals and a drink was tap water…lemonade only on a Sunday.

Crimpolene. Made ICI at Wilton quite a few quid.

Just don't ever touch your new strides with your tab end...

all the above is more or less my diet. never had an indian, cannot remember the last time i went into mcdonalds or the other chains like them and only go down to the chinese a handful of times a year. the only problem is i can wear the same clothes i have had for well over 20 years and only a stone heavier at 12 and a half stone than the day i left school.

Ex Wife

which one.

He’s checked the stock list and it was wife No…33/657/AS76.

Cornedbeef slice, Chips and Gravy In Kips.

The ‘British Restaurant’ next to the Market in Lynn Street.
Used to leg it down from school in the late sixties, much better than school dinners.

Oh Yes!

Both I had to kiss a few frogs to get my princess

Kissing them’s not too bad, but if the ‘date’ goes any further that’s when the RSPCA Vice squad will be after you.

Ringtons, Oxford Road.
And
Reltons(if spelt right) TV repair.

Rington’s door visits are up there with the Jehovah’s Bystanders.

Ringtons still delvering on our road.

Must admit I love your humour.

Thought Reltons was an off licence

I’ve seen an old photo of a Reltons off door in Scarborough Street.

I may have spelt it incorrectly, Maybe starts with a "W"
Half way up oxford road same side as ringtons, Repairing electrical goods.

Cameron’s had the Goldfinch Wine off doors, most pubs had off doors too.
Reltons was definitely an off door….. though…not forgetting Guthries lemonade.made in Stockton Rd next to Strathmore House.

Reltons tv repairs. Surely not a patch on Lenny the telly…

Who was lenny the telly

Late night buses especially the one that went to the depot

A local self employed tv repair man and guitarist.

Bad memories…got the last No 6 going to the Fens one night, I was getting off at Tynebrooke and at the top of Oxford Road the driver lost his temper with a drunken pensioner who kept ringing the bell ..so turned right at the top of Oxford Road and headed back into town, to the cries of a full bus….pulled outside the police station in Raby Road and out came two coppers to ‘escort’ him off the bus.
Got home eventually.
Wonder if he went to court and what they charged him with.

A successful Hartlepool United

Budgie - washer repair man - bloke who was on the fiddle, either moonlighting or claiming benefit. Budgie was his code name when you rang him up- he would then fly to your rescue- cash in hand of course!

Caramac, it’s being discontinued by Nestle, also Animal Bars.

politicians who you could relate to and have a pint with.

Caramac’s as well…always heated them

And now, from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week..!

Heart beat

There was an off license called weschenfelder (or something similar) who had a few outlets around the town
Could that be what you’re thinking about?

Love Heart sweets shaped like a heart with sayings written on them.

Fiesta club in Norton. Never been but remember a work mate telling me Shirley Bassey & Stevie Wonder and many big names preformed at the club. Also sadly the club Bob Newton and Dave Wigget visited prior to that tragic accident. I was told by Bob it was Dave messing about and pulling on the drivers wheel that caused the accident. It may be true but either way it was Bob who decided to drive whilst over the limit...That's two young Pools players we have lost in car crashes over the years so so sad.

Fiesta club.

Used to go there sometimes on a friday without knowing who was on.

Harry Secombe, Performed without a mic.
Les Dawson, Absolute Class

Hot Chocolate
Shawaddywaddy

So it must have been a top class venue back in its day. Is it the same club that became the Blue Monkey

A know it was some form of Gospel church at one time.

I used to go regularly and saw Shirley B there

Well Derwent my mate was indeed correct about Shirley. I always thought it was a wind up about her being there. If I remember correctly he said she charged £29000 for her services and Frank's Sinatra asked for £75000 but was told to sod off or summit like that

Yes it was but before or after that I believe it may have been the Blue Monkey but not sure if it was the same building

The Searchers at the Fiesta and the Drifters who I had seen 3/4 times before but never the same line up, The Real Thing at The Gemini.

Stockton Fiesta ? Did you try the chicken or scampi in a basket??

Yeah but I had trouble when I tried to put the gravy on.

Roy Orbison appeared at the Fiesta. Sang 10 songs without a word in between and walked off

I remember seeing The Searchers at the Fiesta 22 December 1979. (could have been 77 )
Remember it cos I ended up in hospital after being carted off the Rec the following day with a displaced kneecap & buggered up ligaments . Probably lost the game an all !

I was there in 1977, Corporation bus from Hartlepool, just as the Searcher did their encore all hell broke loose a fight started out as a lad jumped on my mate for no reason and we all jumped in to sort it out. The Bouncers broke it up as they had saw what happened and threw the other lads out.
