but how will they claim free benefits, housing etc do the french government compensate/welcome immigrants like us
Welcome/compensate immigrants?? You're fookin' joking. If you'd just gone through the shite that we've had to go through just to get my Mrs a visa to just visit the UK you'd think a bit differently.
Firstly, they don't take postal applications, you have to go to the nearest Visa Centre. It's 500 miles away, so either she gets on a bus for 12 hours either way or we fly at about 100 quid return. They have a help line which they charge out at 5 yuen a minute which is about 33p. Cheap eh?? Most people here earn about 10 yuen a day. We called to track the Visa and after you've gone through all the pre-recorded bollocks the bill stood at 87 yuen. It would have put most Chinese out of business, they can live on that for a fortnight.
They said 4-6 days for a decision, so we booked a week in Bangkok for ten days time. Day eight came and nothing. This is when we made the phone call. Closed for Easter. Fooking Easter in a Buddhist/Taoist country?? She missed the holiday, the passport came back on day 20 with a letter asking her to go in for an interview.
So we paid for another flight to the Visa centre, by this time the bill was running at about 420 quid plus the cost of the visa itself 220 quid. The average Chinese earns 520 quid a year. She got to the interview armed with bank statements, wedding photos, mortgage statements, holiday forms and letters from her job and they asked her about my first marriage which ended in 1984. She said she didn't know but I had a daughter of 28 from it so probably that long ago. They asked why we wanted a visitor visa instead of a settlement one, she said family reasons which are nowt to do with you lot and we might have to run at any time and didn't want to wait 20 days for them to get their finger out. They said OK, visa granted. 1000 miles and a hundred quid for two questions and ten minutes.
Point being, most people in the third world cant afford to go to England. They get priced out by the administration and fuc ked about from pillar to post. We got 'try the website' we did, it said the same thing from day one 'passport sent to Embassy' and the date. We rang and said the website doesn't tell us anything and we've got a holiday booked. They said try the website after 5.30. Guess what time they close?? Yeah 'fuc k off' by any standards.
A visa for Thailand is about 28 quid, a Visa for Vietnam is about 21 quid. A Visa for England, just the basic visitor Visa like you'd get for a holiday?? 220 quid. The whole sorry saga, including the money we lost on the holiday stood us at over a grand. Or two years Chinese wages.
Welcome immigrants?? They don't even welcome your wife, she was made to feel like a criminal all the way through the entire process. So hopefully that's popped THAT particular myth. They refuse about 38% of Visa applications and the vast majority are from students already granted Uni places in England who automatically get their visa after their course is confirmed by the Uni.
