He's never actually won anything but got bags of experience, mainly managing in the Football League, and is still only 42. He should be a serious upgrade on Lee Clark.

I'm ok with Pete Wild if that's who we get. I'm not surprised Maynard knocked us back, he's a southerner and I'd guess he'd be more interested in the FGR job when Robbie Savage goes to Peterborough.
I can't imagine there's many more outstanding candidates other than Wild, being realistic were a national league side in the north east of England.

As long as he’s calling the shots and not a panel puppet.

Maynard was always going to be a long shot and the return of Challinor an even longer one. Most of us would surely agree that it is essential that someone with proven experience and good knowledge of the lower professional English Leagues - and how to get out of them- is appointed. Wild would appear to have the majority of those attributes coupled with familiarity of many of the players so why not give him the opportunity to turn our season around? The critical factor is that Wild MUST be permitted to cut and paste the playing squad as he sees fit, ie offload those players who have been unable to prove their worth to the club and introduce replacements who can and will make a difference, more especially in midfield and the back four.

Totally agree but this season might be just about survival in this league I doubt we have the money to make sweeping changes.

Let Wild bring in his own staff and players then judge him

We need to make big changes to stay up for me, 4 in minimum.

Absolutely agree Stotty, forget about a playoff push, changes are needed for us to simply remain within the NL. The changes that I referenced above are not luxuries and are hardly sweeping but they are essential - anyone who has witnessed Pools performances this season will surely agree that the midfield and defence are clearly lacking in quality. If these issues aren't addressed we will be down with the Darlo and I would think that Pete Wild or whoever accepts the managerial role would insist on being able to make changes in order to have a fighting chance of turning things around.

Not too much wrong with the defence till Fisher took over in goal. If we still had the Chelsea lad, our league position would be healthier though I'm not saying we would be top eight. The major problem as everyone knows, is lack of dynamism in midfield. It was a problem last season as well. If Wild is appointed, lets home he can bring a couple in and send a couple out on loan.

The midfield is the department that needs sorting..this season and last they were as useful as a line up of Easter Island Statues in a Pools strip.
Having a keeper you have doubts about also adds to a defenders problems leading to hesitation, pity it took so long for those in charge to sort it out.

Good midfielders are able to attack and defend when needed, if they can only do the one of those they ain't any good, and shouldn't be classed as professionals.

yes as i understand it pools are close to an agreement . He does have history in rescuing teams who are in a regulation situation and run on a small budget. His playing style is similar to what we have in that he values a tight defence, winning back position and wing backs. However, as said many times by myself and others the main ptonlem is midfield and passing in the box . Fir me 2 attacking midfielders, more drills with crossing and guile in the box will sort it. The final and most important factor is instilling some confidence into our forward line . The defence and goalkeepers are ok fir me. I dont think the problems are as bad as they look. An experienced manager at this level can sort the issues and make the vic a fortress . Lets see .

If our next manager was watching on Tuesday he'll have picked up that the team (and even the midfield) are not a million miles away from being capable of stringing some decent results together based on the 1st half performance. Getting those kind of performances consistently is the key and the biggest challenge.

Possibly not, but I want the other jokers having no say on team matters, he’s here to manage/coach not take orders from the committee.

plus those out injured as well who we have missed. if pools had been top they would have won that game with there own deflection and there one going wide or straight into the keepers hands on the floor.

Was never going to be Maynard he wanted to bring in a 4/5 man team in with him, way too expensive.

some of it could easily have been avoided but those like clark, hartley and sarll asked for everything they got and could not see any club having more patience with them than pools had.

This is what worries me. If he is able to do his job properly, then I would hope that the "committee " are shown the door.

If he is to be appointed it won't be as manager, but as head coach!
Will he want that?

He was 'head coach' not 'manager' in his last 2 jobs, at Fleetwood and Tranmere.

True but Fleetwood and Tranmere did not have Bromby dictating things!
Will he be allowed to bring in Adam Temple?

If Bromby insist Liddle and Clayton stay, to justify that they made the appointments, then Wild will not be allowed to dramatically change things.
Allow him to bring in his own back team, then I will be happy.

Clayton has a 2 year contract at Pools, he would want a big lump of compo to leave, not sure about Liddle.

Which is why bringing in a new coach, won't change that much!
Bromby dictates the coaches, assistant coaches and the players that come in.
A lot on here, including myself have made it very clear we want a good manager who can bring in his own backroom staff and the players he want, not some committee in total charge, that clearly has not worked!

I reckon the majority of us agree.

But I reckon the cash is just not there to do it especially if Jamie is correct about Claytons 2 year deal.
Which probably means Bromby are on 2 yearers as well.

Whoever gets the job I reckon they won't be here for the start of next season.
Just a bad feeling.

Any decent manager would make it a condition that he was in sole charge of team selection. Someone desperate for a job would agree to anything but I dont think Pete Wild is desperate. IF he is appointed he will run the ship his way. Just my two penn'orth

Hopefully you are right Ozzy. Pete Wild insists on his own coaching staff and players.
And then what would be the point of Bromby then? They would be without a job!

Just got to hope their 1st 6 months are covered by a probation period like other jobs.
They have clearly under performed.

If not.
Then a shit load of Patience is needed.

It may be the club simply cant afford any more backroom staff. The point I was making was about the new boss whoever he is, having sole right to choose which players are actually in the team. It might be that the new boss is ok with working with Clayton, no idea. I think Challinor was ok working with Sweeny when he came in, so its not impossible to imagine. I am guessing Bromby would have to work with with the nw boss with him having final say in all matters related to the playing staff. But Pools being Pools you have to expect the unexpected.

Posted on Twitter - not sure if this has been posted elsewhere here.....

Former Oldham and Fleetwood boss Pete Wild has agreed a deal to become the new Hartlepool manager. Wild, who will succeed Lee Clark at Pools, is set to be joined by Stockport County coach Dave Conlon as his assistant

Glad its 'over the line'. 'This is a massive club. I cant wait to get started'. Just plucked a couple from the online leger of football cliches. Seriously thank goodness we've got a manager who knows a bit about the NL. Fingers crossed.

Too many if truth be told but surely that will change in the fullness of time. Turning the bus not the coaches around is what matters at present, starting on Saturday. There is no mention of incoming signings but Wild will surely have ensured that there is funding available to strengthen the squad in those key areas where we are lacking quality.

Great that it's over the line and reasonably quickly - only 12 days since Clark resigned.

Wild and Conlon should be a formidable partnership given time. It'd be wonderful if they clicked into gear straight away and turned results around quickly, but I think it'll take at least a couple of decent signings to put Pools on a regular winning path.

Hope there's no more 'I'll give it 10 games' from the fans. We aren't going to get a better, more experienced team than these two and it'll take what it takes to get it right. Moving away from the relegation zone is the immediate priority. After that, let's see.

Im pleased with the signing . The guy has vast experience in this league and we need to get behind him . His first match is a 6 pointer so potentially could be a thriller . I want out team to start and finish like we did in the first 45 mins at Hartogate . Tight in defence and numbers in the box. Dont be shy lads shoot on site policy and make their goaly work . Im excited

Got to be an improvement from the last one.

But like the Poolie on Tees said last night.
Why now instead of May when Wild was available.

A bad decision that derails us for 12 months.
Should have a better chance to stay up now.
And maybe enter the FA Cup 1st Round or 3rd to generate some dosh.

Dosent guarantee a top 7 for 27/28.
But he will surely plan for a new midfield well in advance.

Hindsight eh.

Maybe Wild wasn't interested in coming here earlier? Could have been holding out and hoping for another job closer to home?
He's here now and I'm expecting to see a "new manager bounce" which for us has been a rarity.
Hopefully he can be somewhere near as successful with us as a previous manager who'd been sacked from a NW club.

At least he has brought in his own assistant, wonder what will happen to the other coaches.

I see the Hartlepool Mail have Wild as only being 38 years of age!

Looks like Bromby are here to stay, so the blame must be on Clark, especially when Maxwell is stating that we have a good set of players.
Hopefully the midfield is improved upon, either by tactics or new faces being brought in.

Another chapter for Pools begins...
