Really liked the look of Ecclestone, looks a very good player.

Caught up with the Fleetwood live stream in time for the second half.

Was all pretty even, with both sides hitting a post before McKeown scored the winner with practically the last kick of the game. Finished with handbags in front of the dugouts because Fleetwood didn't like losing their unbeaten record in 'friendlies.'

We look a vey good unit. Seem to just switch off at the start of the second half like the Grimsby game but otherwise we are a strong team.

It was McKeown scored the goal with a minute to go of normal time. He had just swapped wings with Ilunga and cut in from the Pools left and slotted calmly past their keeper. Previously Ilunga had hit the post and so did they earlier in the half. Pools played very well, worked hard and did a lot of good pressing harried on by Clark on the touchline.

Our defence looked a bit shakier in the second half after taking McNally and John off but our keeper had a good game to keep them out. Harris should have scored but put it straight at the keeper and he was taken off shortly after to be replaced by Hugill. Bondo also came on as a sub and was fouled by their centre half in the dying seconds. Ilunga ran up to defend his team mate, next minute there was about twenty involved.

All things told an encouraging performance by Pools, attendance just over 1300.

Yep I caught the second half. I though the lad with dreadlocks for us was very good. The whole lot of them put in a shift so no complaints from me. Our goalie looked very confident as well.Fleetwood had some good players and made a few clever passing moves. Their winger made a complete tit out of whoever was playing full back for us in the first minute or two of the second half which lead to them hitting the post. On another day they would have scored two or three goals. All in all a pleasing win and very good work out.

A much better, more structured performance from the lads than last week, although Grimsby were a better side than Fleetwood to be fair. Another standout performance from Ecclestone who will be a key player in the forthcoming season. Mckeown took his chance very well but I thought that Harris should have buried his 1:1 with their keeper prior to then. All looking good for the big KO, let's hope that this is our time (again).

I think Ilunga will cause national league defences a lot of problems. He's got some pace on him.

It's been a decent pre season workout.

Since we been non league looks like the gap in quality between div 4 n 5 has widened big style.

Great result but it was hard work were from the 2nd half Fleetwood give us no time on the ball and we struggled to create space.

Should get enough time on the ball in division 5 to open up defences.
I reckon 1 0 wins will be our most popular score this season.

think teams will be in our faces at the vic giving us less time as they can. clarkie must know this but he is still happy with the pre season we have had. didn,t see the game but if the team does look vulnerable when pressed we might have a better away record than at home due to the extra space you get.

One thing we need to work on is the throw ins.

We kept doing very short throws back to our defence who were under instant pressure from their midfielder s.and instantly stifle our attacking play.

It seems the new normal now in most football backwards throw ins.

Must be someone who can do a launch forwards.

Could understand if we defending a good lead.

Something to work on maybe could be worth a few Xtra points over the season.

Question is, does he know his system yet. Looked 442 yesterday? Been playing a bit of a diamond previously.

Ecclestone and Illunga surely start on the wide area unless he brings one of those back to full back to free himself another space in front.

Jack Nolan will play. Who is he dropping up front? Or would he play on the wings.

I’ve not been overly impressed to now with Harris but sure he’s just getting up to speed and we’ll see goals go in when the proper stuff starts.

My prediction is it’ll be Harris alongside Popov with Nolan in behind. But I think Bondo can feel a bit unfortunate there who has looked a handful in his appearances. All in, he’s got a very tough first 11 to pick!

clarke will have a really hard job in putting that team sheet up. unlike most managers in recent years had the side picked for them due to lack of numbers. there will be bound to be unhappy players who will never get a kick on saturday. its keeping them happy which is another problem. there is also bound to be some fans who disagree with his choices with real relevant reasons

Sounds like Hugill hasn’t impressed many in pre season. Hoping he’s not going to be another big name flop for us. He will be on big wages so we need goals and good performances from him but I’ve seen most people not having him in the first 11.

That would be my team and formation too but tempted to start Hugill over Popov and bring Popov on later.

could be the case of as you get older its hard to motivate yourself in pre season games plus there is also the danger of missing part of the important part of the season by picking up a stupid injury. lets wait till next week to see what he is about.

The big difference this year is that Hugill is one of 3 good options up front, and Bondo looks like he could become a 4th in time.

With the likes of Howard when he was brought in, he will have taken a big percentage of the squad budget, so he needed to be the first name on the team sheet, as we couldn’t afford anyone else.

DJ last year won’t have been at the same level as Howard wages-wise, but it was him and Reid, with nobody really else to come on if it didn’t work.

Hugill will be very effective for certain situations, and not really suited to others, but we have the luxury being able to chop and change and have a pacy front line, or a powerful front line, or a mix of the two, depending on who we are up against.

Hugill provided the knock down for McKeown's goal. He was only on for 20 minutes and was a handful.

My opinion is Hugill off the bench rather than starting. The few glimpses of Bondo look promising. He's aware of his teammates and looks like he has very good pace. Young lad who could be a future diamond. Ilunga looks a right handful and will definitely test NL defenders. I think Nolan will be the key man if he stays injury free and Popov is also a nuisance. All in all, they look like they want to push forward at every opportunity. I'm more optimistic than I have been since Porter et al were playing.

Liked the togetherness they showed at the end when the scuffle started, I don't think any of our lot stood back, even the keeper came sprinting to the side scuffle where 2 or 3 of their players were crowding one of ours.

with the problems at redcar and that game i wonder if out players diets have been altered and can all handle themselves but not to the extent of sarlls team.
