This applies to ALL Parties……
The way that a person, any person, can simply be elected as an MP with the Party’s sacrifice of a sitting MP and the Party makes them their leader immediately.
In theory Stalin could have been elected as leader….obviously he’s dead but it wouldn’t be noticed in the House of Commons.
Even more astonishing, with a landslide victory, the Labour Party cannot find even one candidate from those hundreds of MP’s elected to step up…?
Plus Burnham was no shining star under Blair and Brown….. very odd.

And he lost in previous leadership bids to Milliband and Corbyn. All I can remember about his days in governement is that he got booed when he was at the Hillsborough Memorial Service at Anfield.

Just another one in a long line of "know nowt" wannabe politicians who are puppets to the WEF agenda, as Carl Vernon says I wonder how many families have actually benefited from Rachel Reeves VAT cutting entry fee discount at galleries, museums, theme parks, zoos etc....if they can get a bank loan to cover the entry fee. Never has there been such a collection of gormless out of touch people making decisions to further wreck our once glorious country.

they are supposed to be the party of brotherly love and equality for all but seem to try anything but put a woman in charge. imagine what they,d be making of this if the tories were doing it.

Did none of the current Labour Party have the bottle or not capable of standing against Starmer, it’s a sorry state when you have to import one to do so.

It’s a poisoned chalice created by Starmer, the old school Labour don’t want to know it and the wannabes don’t want it when push comes to shove, they like making bullets but not prepared to fire like. Our MP who stood up in Parliament and said Starmer should resign now he has and we haven’t heard a peep from him ?

Re O.T. I don’t like it either, it is odd- worrying even.

It could be a celebrity! It could be Sting! An MP could resign, Sting could be voted in, Sting could be P.M.

I wonder what he would do? Sort out the police maybe?

What Starmer and the Labour perty fail to acknowledge is that they did not win the last general election, the
Tories lost it. It did not matter one jot what was in the Labour manifesto, the electorate wanted shot of the Tories.
Having witnessed Labour doing just as bad, the time for a true change needs to occur!

think thats been the same in every GE i can think of. its not new love for a party, its anything thats seen as better just to get rid of them. difference this time was the extra numbers who did not really want either and voted for someone different or just stayed at home.

There won't be a GE before 29.

Somewhere down the line the 26. 27. or 28 Autumn budget is going to have to have a few sweeteners in it for us lot.

Or Burnham could tax the shit out of us for the next 3 years whilst makeing a fortune for himself then hand the baton over to Farage without a fight.
A bit like Sunak to Starmer was.

I
If Burnhams serious about this 10 year shit then he has to change c tax to Land Levy Tax and raise the tax threshold up a fair whack from the £12570 to benefit workers n state pensions.

What will be will be.

Burnham isn't stupid enough to believe he'll even win the next GE let alone come up with and execute an effective 10 year plan. Labour had 14 years to plan and prepare and according to Starmer's most senior advisor McSweeney they weren't ready. Burnham will do his best to extend his stay in Downing Street but he'll be more focussed in further building his own profile and bank balance ready for a future outwith party politics.

Just thought, is there an "Upping Street" in Manchester for the second home of the PM?

I said early on in this Government that they were a bunch of amateurs and not prepared for Government and Morgan Mc Sweeney has underlined that. Ill conceived planning or a lack of it, culminating in so many u turns, is crippling the Country and should be challenged legally.
Let's get rid.
Keir Hardie et al must be turning in their graves at the mass of incompetency that now exists in the Party they cobbled together.
Not a genuine "working man" in the original sense of the description amongst them.
Is any reasonably sane person in this Country convinced that Burnham and his answer to our woes of further lurching to
even higher taxation is going to pull us out of the sticky stuff????
Are we really that daft that we are allowing someone like him a free, unchallenged entry into Number 10. Runner up to the likes of Milliband and Corbyn, is he really the best we've got. God help us.

Unfortunately we don't have a say. But for around 400 Labour MPs to welcome him as the answer just shows what a poor lot they are. Embarrassing really, at least the Tory's had leadership challenges.

I don’t think all of the 400 MPs will welcome Burnham more so the way he was elected as an MP to mount a leadership challenge. Whilst he might be ok in the U.K. parliament it will be interesting how he reacts when he meets international leaders.

I agree with what you say Derwent but is there a credible party out there who support the working class but not their rich mates.
Unfortunately the sticky stuff has to be paid some how, it makes me cringe about the millions given away during Covid, fraudulent claims for the furlough scheme, employees were actually working but employers were still claiming it, faulty PPE and the failed Track and Trace system.

You don’t seriously believe that Labour represent the working man do you.Labour has morphed into a middle class version of the Labour Party without any personal experience or comprehension of the working class problems which is why they shower benefits about like confetti while squeezing the workers …Labour politicians nowadays have generally no comprehension or can really relate to those who go out to work , the people who reluctantly have to cough up for this nonsense.
It’s Labour Jim but not as we know it…… reward the workers, not the shirkers.

have the labour party ever been the one for the working man. i have been one of them from 1964 and always found i was slightly better financially under the tories. far less annoying practises under them than labour who seem to be the party for the scrounger and immigrant legal or otherwise. they might talk a bit but just cannot see the present labour lot being tough on immigtation and those on benefits as its not the done thing back in the university debating society.

The Labour government has more favourable employment laws for the working class where the Tories are more in favour of the hire and fire regime.

sometimes those laws are not wanted by workers and management for different reasons. thing is you cannot opt out of them as control is their middle name. i have other things to do so i,m not looking it up, but apart from the thatcher early years i,m sure unemployment goes up under labour.

Remember when the Government raises the minimum wage, they’re being generous with other peoples money, it’s not their money, yet they take the credit.
There’s always been Labour Laws…. but the devils in the detail….you push the minimum wage up for youngsters and businesses will cut back on employing them.
It’s a two edged sword and you’ve brought a toffee hammer.to the fight.

Having watched Burnham trudging about on the news of late it's patently obvious the bloke has never done any manual work in his life, would probably faint having to fill a bucket of coal. They do like to be seen out jogging though, as if that somehow makes them look fit, bet he couldn't beat me to the end of the street and back and I'm giving away a few years. He'll not make a hapeth of difference to the current rabble, Kier mk.2. Doubling up on the current lefty woke agenda.

he is only biding time until he can get into one of the executive boxes at one of the manchester clubs grounds. just why do they want to be just like us their voters when clearly they are not.

Horrible, horrible place, ruined from what it once was…a smackheads theme park.
Remember being in Bonn and seeing this sunken area all fenced off in the city centre near a park where the drunks and deadbeats were deposited for the day..a bit like a ‘human’ zoo.

Burnham apparently reckons he's going to nationalise power and water companies, however Count Binface reckons he's going to nationalise Adele.

I wonder which is more likely to happen?

burnham will have to do something to make his mark. just hoping it will not affect me and others that much. if he cocks it up at the outset it could live with him up to the general election as voters are not allowed to forget nowadays.

I know YouTube videos are just for cranks spouting shit to try n get you to hit the subscribe button.

But one gadgie reckons the Land Value Tax will take at least 3 years to implement.
FFS.
And by then Farage will keep the C Tax.

And in the news quietly online this week that the State Pension age will rise to 68 as early as 2037.

If ya under 45 ya basically got no future unless you inherit money.

Never thought it would come to this 10 years ago.

But life goes on.
At least we got a Poolie Promotion to celebrate in the not to distant future.

To be fair a lot of what Burnham says he'd like to do seem like good ideas, opening up drilling in the North Sea, redistributing power and tax revenue to the regions, nationalising transport and utilities, cross party working in certain areas, etc
But for one thing he has no mandate which weakens his position.
More importantly, MPs generally are not going to vote for measures that weaken the SE and the all important Westminster power bubble and gravy train.

It was noticed that Burnham had to look down at his notes 266 times yesterday...well spotted our Nige.

And the significance is ?

Does he use the same script writer as Starmer?

I hope not.

The proof of the pudding will be in who selects for his cabinet…can they make Millibean the Ambassador to Kazakhstan….?

Well i can't wait to see what boy wonder has to put on the table..Drilling in the North Sea would be a good start, having to deal with Milliband's bulging eyes and flailing arms over it is another matter..

The fella is not even in the chair yet but just waiting to criticise him, it’s not a quick fix, would you be so quick to criticise if Farage was in number 10 ?

Sorry but changing leader doesn't buy him any time, he needs to hit the ground running the clocks ticking and Starmer has wasted over 40% of the Parliamentary term. We haven't changed Government we've changed the PM who must either stick at least loosely to the mandate Starmer had or call a GE.
If he gives the go ahead for further drilling in the North Sea and does away with the plans for digital ID they'll be quick fixes and welcome news.

His first call is the ones he has in his cabinet, I don’t want Miliband as all he will do is bleat on about green energy, for me a new Chancellor is the one he needs to get right. Drilling in the North Sea, it will take years to have any impact as it was abandoned and let’s be honest the only benefit would be the additional taxes as oil and gas is sold on the world markets irrespective of where it comes from.

Try telling people in Aberdeen and the offshore supply chain businesses that the only impact will be on tax revenues!
Also if we can reduce our import needs even slightly it should appease the greens if they apply common sense - our environmental regulations for oil and gas production are far in excess of what bigger exporters have, we produce it at a cleaner cost, and shipping oil and gas across the world isn't exactly carbon neutral either.
So no it may not affect energy prices much but it does bring in revenue, is cleaner, creates or protects jobs, improves security of supply, etc etc
Milliband needs to be put somewhere where his ideology isn't going to harm the country.
