I was slowly fuming during the match, but two good goals saved the day and all is forgiven
That said, t Congo were a good team, a fit team and a strong team with the players playing in Europe and the belief of some fans they’re playing in the Congo with coats for goals …..but most of all their keeper who was excellent and saved several shots on the day that normally would have went in ( can we sign him  )…..in the end, dogged determination and a change of personnel did the trick but spoiled my pizza.
Ah well.

The defence is an absolute liability, and Pickford isn't as good as He and the media make him out to be.
Spence was awful throughout as was Rashford.
Play to our strengths and we look a different team - get the ball to Bellingham and Kane in and around the box.
Knock out football and a win is a win though.

Pickford must have the concession for the goalkeeping spot…..but frankly half that team just aren’t up to the job.

Was at the cricket for the England v India T20 International. Bought the tickets last October so obviously had no idea there was going to be a clash with an England World Cup game.

Good watching India batting in light drizzle throughout but the biggest cheers were for England's 2 goals.

It started raining more heavily at the change around so England didn't get to bat - and we get a 50% refunds on the tickets. Canny.

Only 6 posts here and 1 about cricket. This illustrates the apathy re the World Cup. I'm not sure if many actually believe this England team is the real deal. I don't pick up the feeling of previous World Cups at present.

Mine is as much about the footie as the cricket. If I didn't have a ticket for something else I bought 9 months earlier I'd have been watching the DR Congo game. The pubs are packed for England's matches. Don't see any evidence of apathy at all.

Think it was a minimum expectation that we would beat Congo last night, though we did make hard work of it.

Next game Mexico away at altitude- don't fancy our chances if I'm honest
potentially Brazil in the Quarter finals
The Argies in the Semi Final
And France in the Final.

So IF we did win it- we would be more than worthy champions.

Can't see it myself- the battle scars of disappointment of previous tournaments, are too engrained for me to wind myself up, nowadays - Its Staying Away!

Up until this close season following England was like watching Pools- always the bridesmaid- though this summer with Pools- it feels very different, more realistic, than just blind hope, that we might be competitive.

A first League title would be immense- reckon I'd probably cry if we did actually manage it.
Plus we've waited a damn sight longer for a cup than England have (not counting the much coveted Comcast Cup, on this occasion- as that's soooo 2009)!

The Liberal Democrats have tabled a motion in Parliament calling for England captain Harry Kane to be awarded a knighthood, following his sensational, tournament-saving performance against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday evening,

Utter bollocks and blatant arse licking for votes from the Lib Dem’s who are to footy what sharks are to knitting.
When we start giving out awards for scoring goals, we’re f#£&@d.

I'm sure we were top by about 14 points when Newell was manager then blew it last day at Rushden.
Then we had a great chance under Wilson if memory serves me well.

Maybe 3rd time lucky in the future.

As for next season I'd Deffo take 7th top now even though the hope levels are now genuine.

after the knee jerk reaction common sense has come into play. It would have been the fns that had bought tickets who would have suffered with some missing out. when they bugger about our games to 12.30 or 5.30 plenty us aint happy with it.

Mexico aren't as good as some people are making out. Their star striker, Jimenez, will be playing for Wolves in the Championship next season. That said, they'll have 80,000 fanatical fans cheering them on and the game will be played at altitude.

England will be glad of the advertising breaks for once, not to mention the risk of long delays if the predicted thunderstorms appear. Could be a 4a.m. finish!

talking about thunderstorms do they empty the stadium or refuse entry if there is one or is it only the players who are at risk.

could have said the exact same thing about england in 1966. they won it with more than a little help o playing every game at wemb;ey in front of a home crowd and a little help from the match officials. can see mexico getting that plus a dollop of VAR favouritism that they have not needed yet.

While Wilfred Brambell and Thomas Tuchel are not related, a number of fans and pop culture observers have noted a distinct visual resemblance between the two men, particularly when comparing Brambell's iconic, sharp facial features from his later acting years to the German football manager's expressions on the touchline. I was sent an attachment but don’t know how to upload it to The Bunker.

It is impossible to play flat out at altitude and for once England's boring possession game will be an asset allowing the players to regain composure after periods of exertion. A win of any sort would be a truly great result at the Azteca stadium where only two visiting teams out of the last 89 have been successful.

But every game is a home game for the host team and obviously every match is in front of home fans.

The ‘antics’ of their fans in keeping visiting teams awake would surely be acted upon in any other country yet nothing happens there…..might explain their home results if you deprive visiting teams of sleep….banana republic stuff.

How do you stop it Snowy, the Mexican FA can’t and it isn’t against the rules in football.

Let's hope Tuchel starts with his strongest team and tries to get a lead, one thing we don't want to be doing is chasing the game in those conditions.

I'm sure Newell finished the season at Rushden
Scunthorpe away, was the day we were mathematically promoted despite being absolutely spanked 4 nil by the Scunts. We were lucky to get nil that day and the Pools fans booed the players off.
Think Tommy Widdrington kicked off with the Pools fans in the away end, almost coming to blows with a couple of Poolies, as we'd just been promoted
Only Pools could get booed off and win promotion on the same day!

The season under Wilson was when we lost out to Walsall- think we needed a point to win the league and lost 4 nil at home to Bristol Rovers on the final day- bridesmaid again!

I was at that Scunny game, we didn't turn up at all, Widdrington certainly was angry at the booing and told fans we were promoted so to be happy which didn't go down well either but it was never going to kick off. A bigger issue was being stuck in the corner of the locked ground while their supporters were lobbing half bricks over the fence at us.
I haven't checked, but I thought that was under Newell too.

We lost 2-1 at home to Bristol Rovers, we were 1-0 up at half time. They needed the win to finish in a play off place.

At Scunthorpe, Widdrington said "We are Hartlepool not Liverpool" to the fans.
There is only one Chrissy Turner was sung by the fans when we went 4-0 down. Yes Newell was in charge.

I remember Micky B asking the Pools fans if we'd been promoted - shocked at how bad we'd been but just confused by the reaction against it being a successful end to the season - he was visibly upset. I recall thinking - typical Pools - fuck up a happy ending.
