Shocked to learn he’s died, still a lad in my memory. RIP

What a shame indeed, great lad. RIP

Scored the goal to keep Torquay in the league in injury time, the match in which a police dog had bitten a player taking a throw in which caused the match to be delayed.

RIP Dobber.

Thats a shock.
I used to play football with him on Clavering Field when we were kids.
He was a level above the rest if us and a great lad.

Will be sadly missed.

I remember him scoring a wonderful goal against Swindon in the 85/86 season. He got the ball in our own half, pretty much went past half the Swindon team before slotting it past their keeper in the town end. It was a thing of beauty.
Funny how things like that stay fresh in the memory bit I can't remember what I did last week.

Found these notes in a 1982/83 Pools diary about Paul:

Played for us briefly, didn’t work out for him unfortunately. Always sad when ex players pass no matter what their contribution was.

He scored 8 goals in 31 appearance first time round 81-82, then when he returned a year later scored 24 goals in 80 appearances 83-86.
I wouldn't call that brief.

Loan Star -" Played for us briefly." Was that at Darlo where he made 14 appearances in 1992-1993 scoring 2 goals ? As said earlier, a great tribute from Torquay.

Paul peaked at Torquay where he scored 38 goals in 77 games, that's a goal every other game which is good by anyone's standards.

My favourite player ever in terms of effort. Maybe limited at league level but no lack of trying. RIP Dobbo.
