Rob Law on X reporting pools are trying hard to sign Will Harris from Halifax.

He would be a terrific signing but Halifax's belated decision to trigger a 1 year extension on his contract means they'd be due a big fee for him. Rob Law says that this is "being contested" but how, on what grounds?

or have halidax cocked things up with the dates or time involved. anyway if it was one of our players involved and they wanted away i,d let them even if we did not make much out of the deal. you can tell when players have no heart in the job anymore.

I don’t think it’s around the offer of re-engagement. It’s around the 1 year option that Halifax have to extend his contract. There will be a window in the contract by which time the option must be triggered. That link mentions that it can be triggered at any point in the season, well Halifax’s season ended on 25th April, and the National League season ended with the Play-Off final on the 10th May. If they didn’t formally trigger their extension option prior to that date, then it has lapsed, they have screwed up and he can go for free. I guess it’s down to the legal interpretation of the end of the season.

Even if they make an offer if Re-Engagement, then he was 25 last October, so there would be no compensation due.

Looks like Halifax have made a balls up. I have read that at the end of contract the player can not be forced to take up the club's option of an extra year and as of 30yh June will become a free agent.

Would be unreal, if we managed to sign him as well as Nolan- a real statement of intent

They are a rugby League town, and some of their home attendances were sub 1k last season, which quite frankly is embarrassing. Coupled with the fact that Harris is from Shields and we're now ambitiously building an empire- hopefully it'll be a formality!

Been reading that he may be going to Doncaster or Cambridge as Halifax don't want to sell him to a national league side. Don't know how true that is though.

If he's out of contract and they bolloxed the paperwork to activate the one year option they had (as has been rumoured above) then surely he'll be a free agent on 1st July and they'll have no say as to who he signs for.

Given the option of being a bit part player at those two clubs in League 1, OR signing for us, playing most games and coming back to the North East- reckon we're still in with a decent shout. Come on Will- you know it makes sense!

its hard to imagine someone who is 26 going from the national league to div.1 of the efl. might be somebody at halifax trying to cover there backs. cannot imagine there fan being all that happy.

they are a failed rugby league town now same as the football. better options close by in both sports.

They are AFC Halifax not Town.

Just wondering if he is good enough for the likes of Donny? It would be a big step up. Its all right scoring goals in the NL but it does not neccessarily translate to the FL. Might do ok Cambridge in League Two but if he is a Northern lad he may not want to go that far South. As always, time will tell.

True. There's not much between the bottom end of League 2 and the top end of the NFL.

Somebody on the Bromley podcast made a similar point . Ilunga was an impact sub in a lot of games in Bromley's title winning season in League 2 but he wasn't quite good enough for their first team. He reckoned Ilunga could have walked into any team in the bottom half of League 2.

BTW, Cambridge were promoted along with Bromley and MK Dons

Halifax's new manager obviously doesn't want to lose Harris but saying he's part of a team WhatsApp group is a bit clutching at straws. Reminds me of the Mani D situation last summer.

That's just posturing by their manager. Zero chance he'll play for Halifax again.
I reckon we wait and see what happens on 1st July- once his contract is up- assuming they have indeed bolloxed the one year option - must be some truth in that as that's not the type of thing anybody would make up.

He's a North East lad and can see that we clearly mean business this season, given our strong recruitment so far, and new structure with Landon leading the charge. No doubt he'd also be desperate to play in front of a proper crowd instead of a small audience of yorkies every other week!
