Under Government proposals PE activities will be removed from the curriculum alongside Art subjects.
You couldn’t make it up.
All our future sportsmen will have to join a private sports club to get on in something schools provided a big outlet for.
What are they gonna do with the vacant slots in the time table…more maths and English or bore the kids to death with some social engineering topic….no footy lads but we’ll be discussing peanut exploitation in Bogrovia…?
Mind you, looking at the cabinet, they look like sports were low down their list of priorities at school.

more good news for parents as they,ll have trouble now 5 days a week instead of 4 getting lads off to school. one minute there is an obesity crisis for kids and now they are making it worse. suppose veggie and vegan school dinners will couteract lack of exercise and the kids mental health will improve when they ditch the football and paint brush dor advice in fashion and make up and the rights of illegals over them.

TBH are kids fit enough to do P.E., the majority are glued to their games machines nowadays, I think they would find P.E. boring and won’t be disappointed if it’s removed from the curriculum. Replace it with a subject about economics, banking or how not to get into debt etc.

My daughters school already do this for this for those in Year 11, they give them the option to drop PE so they can have more Maths or English lessons, they do this to try and improve the GCSE scores in the core subjects

For decades this system has worked…are they saying more basic lessons are being needed because the present standards aren’t up to scratch… or some pupils aren’t…?

Probably get forced to learn more foreign languages to integrate better with the Boaties.
Make them more welcome to Free Britain Utd.

A real little Englander comment, you sound like a very parochial person, it’s a great idea for kids to learn a foreign language, why should they have to rely on the fact everyone is expected to speak English if they ever decide to travel abroad and broaden their outlook.
You appear to forget the vast majority of immigrants arrive legally in the U.K. not in boats.

I think most of the equipment we used at P.E. in our day will have been removed due to the current Health and Safety rules.

When did you last visit Thailand, you haven’t a clue, one thing for sure the government here are helping out the low paid not by benefits but by curbing fuel and utility prices, the benefit of not being owned by private foreign companies.
The word parochial means having a narrow, limited, or provincial outlook. It describes a mentality or perspective that is focused only on local or immediate concerns, often showing little interest in broader, global, or different ideas

Pupils or teaching standards? Probably a bit of both, at the end of the day all the schools seem to be bothered with now is how many pupils pass the 3 core subjects, Maths, English and Science which is why lessons in other departments, Art, Music etc are diminishing year on year

Well I'm still teaching Woodwork........

........ for now! 23 years in- potentially another 20 to go- though reckon I'll be lucky to manage another dozen, which will take me up to 60.

One of the main problems I've noticed down the years (Other than Michael Gove- who single handedly destroyed secondary education overnight back in 2010) are the SATS the Yr 6 Primary Schools are made to do.

It's completely narrowed the primary curriculum to the point where when kids turn up at BIG school - most can barely hold a pair of scissors and any creativity and fun has been sucked out of them. For me SATS serve zero purpose and stress the kids out, for no good reason- they need to axed, for me.

I go back to the days of the 11 plus, but primary/junior school was a joy with its’ variety of work in class.
Emphasis for the 11 plus was only on English and Maths with double exams too screen out the numbers, but once in senior school it’s’ topics widened out again for the next two years to focus on your chosen O levels …I dumped French, Physics and Chemistry and took Art, Tech Drawing and Building Construction as O level subjects, for a foothold in the building industry drawing office but instead, come the day, went a bit more heavy industry and never regretted it in the long run.
What are todays kids being offered in anticipation of going into the world of work….it seems the Degree is the the target, but to what purpose…I found myself on a five years course at the Boro on day release from from 8.30 in the morning till 9.30 at night and spent more time in lectures in a day than most uni students will in a week…..seems we’re now sending kids on a one route journey and tossing the rest aside.

And that one route takes many back to the work level of non graduates but with the addition of a boatload of debt.
We've had successive governments for decades promising to build more housing - a commodity that will always be needed, yet we rely on foreign tradesmen to build them and afterwards finding a tradesman to carry out repairs is like looking for hens teeth.
Long term policy should be training up electricians, joiners, plumbers, bricks, roofers, painters and decorators, etc they'll never be out of work. Along with bringing back our own manufacturing industries and encouraging our own employment and training in those industries. How many people are going to find relevant work when they leave Uni with a Fine Arts or Media Studies etc degree?
Why can't we have cross party governmental agreement for longer term strategies and commitments to actually improve things?

fine, but which foreign language do you teach kids. if you go to say spain i doubt the knowledge of french would be a big help. they the way languages are being taught do not help as a remember years back my girlfriend of the time was miles above anybody at the top clss in french but could not understand native drench speakers in france or belgium. ot should not be all about passing exams as most languages are available to learn via the internet which kids could do for homework and they could pick the one that suits them even thai.

for years and years those types of jobs were looked down upon by schools were it was college, university or office jobs even back in the early 60,s at grammar schools, had a mate who left at 15 to be an apprentice carpenter because he loved woodwork and was good at it. was told he was stupid and should stay on for exams. the laugh was at them as in 10 years time he was living in the best area of the town. then for years there was a bit of snobbery about tradesmen in certain trades.
