You've hit the nail right on the head there.

To quote the Retained/Released statement: 'Chris Maxwell, Head of Football Operations at Bromby & Partners said: “Our focus is on building the right squad... There is still important work to be done, including the appointment of a new first-team coach." Not manager.

I imagine that will have a bearing on who has and hasn't applied for the Pools job and the type of coach that is likely to be appointed. Anyone who wants a big say in player recruitment need not apply.

It's the way American team sports operate and how football is run in Europe and in quite a few clubs in the PL.

but does that mean its the way forward for every club. american sport is not british sport and the premier league is getting closer and closer to english teams with a european squad. doubt it will increase the pool of people wanting to manage pools unless we go down the line of having a european or american coach. its a british thing still for ex players wanting to be a manager and not just the coach as they have been brought up that way.

It’s bollocks…a tradesman chooses his own toools, the tools don’t choose him.
A coach is not a manager…..there’s more to football than just football…. there’s the psychology that gets you places, coaches are assistants to the manager.

I would prefer someone who is au fait with this level but we have to rely on others knowing what they are doing. He doesn't generate a wow from me. He might just be the man, time will tell.
Waiting and seeing on that decision as well, if he gets the job that is.

I'm not sure it'll be that big a change to be honest. Joe 'Invisible Man' Monks seems to have had more say over signing players than anyone else for the past few seasons. We still don't know which 'other club' he's supposed to have moved on to.

Who chose the players who Pools signed at the beginning of last season? It's not likely to have been Grayson - he'd been out in India and Nepal for 3 years.

As you say, there's been no announcement on any of them - Lidds, Smithy, Danny the Physio...

Feaths said a couple of times before the end of the season that other staff needed to know their situation and not be left hanging.

I’ve been told that Danny is moving to Middlesbrough.

That could well be the case- given how he waved to the crowd, after the Boston game. Hope not though.

I reckon the clearing of the decks is going to be that thorough…….as a club we always h7ng onto what can be called retainers…… this it appears is the idea of getting someon in from the outside with no loyalties or friendship and giving their own assessment of what’s needed to be changed…and probably with more insight than the average fan and no conscience.
Time will tell if it works out, the Jury is out, but the verdict will be well down the road before we know if it’s worked out.

The Verdict road shouldn't be a long one.
Let's take a good look at where we are:

Division 5.

I'm expecting a relatively smallish upgrade next season to a top 7 finish.
That should be phase 1.

One step at a time on this road to recovery.

And if we take the FA Cup seriously it's a potential money spinner to invest into play - offs to even Promotion because anything can happen as we know from our last Play off Triumph.

UTP.

Consolidation season 26/27.
Not a chance that's for arseholes with no ambition.
I tell it how it is and we life a short life.

UTP.

if consolidation means finishing in the top 2 or 3 in the play odds then fine. just scraping into them after finishing 9th would not seem that great an improvement. think how the team performs to reach any position is also important after last season. cannot see many wanting to watch that type of tripe that was served up at home.

Nothing wrong with telling it how it is. The danger arises when people tell it how they hope it's gonna be.

He's always linked with the Pools job.

I can't see it being him- simply because I reckon he would have already been announced.

Get the impression it might be the fella from Shields- should they lose to Kiddy at the weekend.

Though probably more likely to be a left field appointment none of us have heard of

Would be nice if they could give us a time frame of when the white smoke will be released - even if that's all they tell us. Maybe it needs to coincide with Landon being on this side of the pond- for the Press Conference

As you say Cattermole has repeatedly been linked with the Pools job in the past - for whatever reason - but has never been appointed. IMO this is positively NOT the time to appointment an inexperienced manager/first team coach whatever title is to bestowed upon him. We may as well retain Feaths or even bring Kev Phillips or Skippy back and give one of them another opportunity under a strong Director of Football.

For a club with serious ambitions of securing promotion next season we should really be looking at the likes of Daryl Clarke or similar, ie someone of proven managerial ability at this level and/or above. I can't see the appointment of Cattermole attracting the quality that we will undoubtedly need to the club.

Sadly, for the first time I am doubting if Bromby/LS really do know what they are doing. Not impressed by the club seemingly going in a retrograde direction. Perhaps their initial targets have turned down the opportunity to sign up to the Pools dream?

Darrell 'Trigger' Clarke for me- all day long- assuming he's thrown his hat in the ring?
As you said may as well have kept Fev, as appoint Cattermole.

We'll just have to wait and see- could well depend on who does the best PowerPoint!

If Darrell Clarke hadn’t played for Pools he wouldn’t even be mentioned. He shouldn’t be anywhere near any credible shortlist for this job.

The Cattermole tale was just that.
Daryl Clark is not as straightforward as it seems.
As Sedgefield Poolie said, if Clark hadn’t played for Pools, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Not sure that no news, or rumours should be casting doubts over LS or Bromby to be fair. It seems a slow process to recruit a manager, but let's not forget it's still only early May and this weekend is when a normal season would be concluding.

yet again every name that comes up has had or has connections to the NE. our problem is we have tried going down that line and failed just like we have bringing in those from out of the area. feel its a good time compared to others to get the pools managers job and all decent managers have something in common to help them. confidence of being able to do the job.

And that makes the South Shields Manager favorite IMO.

Talk of they Gunna be well financially backed for next season.
If they win on Saturday v Kiddy and there's a good contract offer to stay at Shields then he's got to ask himself.
South Shields were he will be happy and secure or Gamble on 1 of the hardest jobs in Football at Hartlepool United.
To become a higher graded up the pyramid Manager.

It's for sure turning into a mystery which Sing would of been lambasted for no doubt.

UTP.

Latest one i heard last night was we are waiting on Steve Agnew at Salford.
Could be shite who knows.

Surely not Agnew (a poor man's Atillio Lombardo)!
He was coach at Pools under Martin Scott and that was a disastrous season, which ended in relegation with virtually the same team that lost the Playoff final to the Wendies the year before. It may be 20 years ago- but I haven't forgotten!

Reckon we'd be better off with Andrew Agnew (better known as PC Plum in kids show Balamory)! Or maybe even Jonathan - from Test Match Special but PLEASE, NOT Steve

Agnew has only been at Salford since February.

Is he only on a short term contract?

Why would he want to potentially drop down 2 divisions.
Salford been excellent since he joined them.

Good point. It doesn't seem logical unless we're offering a lot of money which would seem odd if we were.

My favourite rumour on the new manager was suggested to me last night and it is, we are waiting for the outcome of Stockport's challenge for a place in the Championship. The outcome of which could decide whether DC returns. When I asked which outcome would be to our advantage, I woke up, so I can't tell you that. :o :o :o

I hear Josh Gowling does an amazing PowerPoint!
You know it makes sense

prefer to hear rumours like that than many of the others. at least it would show that the club was looking higher not lower. its as in the brondby lot are part of the singh empire.

Got to think that the top choice(s) are either turning us down or struggling to agree terms considering it's what 6 weeks or so since the announcement that Fev wasn't the future was made?
To be fair, if we really are considering some of the rumoured names we'd have been as well keeping Fev with a decent assistant and Director of Football advising with a more expansive style of football.
Hope Bromby are not just finding jobs for their mates.
