Heard a conversation this morning where someone said if it splashed down in Hartlepool Bay, within 15 minutes it would be in a building somewhere in Longhill being broken for spares and the four confused astronauts in the arcades with a bag of chips.

The astronauts would think that they had splashed down on a harsh parallel world of unfinished buildings and dereliction, with craters on every road surface and humans being dragged around by teams of dogs with doleful expressions on faces devoid of hope and expectation.

From what I can gather NASA have done this mission to see if they can land on the moon. Almost 60 years ago they did land on the moon & the technology is a lot better now compared to then. Or have I missed something?

Could be either something to do with populating the moon or at least establishing a Moonbase Alpha before the Russians, Chinese or Indians get there - and/or claiming it for mineral recover etc

isn,t the moon full of loose rocks, dust and craters. landing on one of our main roads would have done the trick.

Got to say the Artemis mission proves how clever those at NASA were in the 60s and 70s. The main elements are exactly as they were back in the day when it was all calculated with minimal computing capability. The rockets may be more powerful and they now have an en-suite toilet but the fundamentals are the same. It wasn't affordable in the 1970s and I'm not sure its affordable now. No wonder USA has a lower life expectancy than the rest of the western world when they prioritise space and wars over health care.

Just finished reading a book where the Chinese built a space station on the other side of the moon out of sight of everyone. Their plan was to launch ballistic nuclear missiles on the USA.
