And a team needs a captain who can install some toughness into the players, as well as the manager!
I'd sign in an instance for Pools if I were good enough. Show the rest of the team some good old fashion passion, guts as well as skill!

thing is a lot of that is something from the past. play with guts and passion the next thing will be a yellow card thrust in your face for committing an offence that 20 years back would have been a free kick if you were unlucky. every generation goes through this. 1920 and 30,s players thought those of the 60,s soft. 60,s the same with those from the 80,s and so on and so on. the best passion seen now is thr rehersed goal celebrations. got to remember its not just pools its football in general thats changed for the worst for me. does seem odd though that this softly approach has not seen less injuries to players as we certainly know.

I would rather watch a match between 2 top teams from years gone by rather than the rubbish that is served up these days!

i,d go further and say i,d rather watch the old pools fighting out a re election battle against a ream in similar circumstances. might be a shit game for the purist but at least the ref was not centre stage with talk of the terrace about the team rather than owners or managers. felt more of a closeness to the players then than now. at least they were paid for being crap and not dar more than they deserved.

The Big Match on ITV 4. Memories. Great players, quagmire pitches, decent refs, GBH tackling, no effing pundits other than Uncle Jimmy...

what would be really interesting is the Big Match having todays commentators and pundits on it. can hear them now saying that best bloke does not defend enough and the two franks lee and worthington look greedy and unfit.

So we've drawn with two teams chasing promotion since the Wealdstone debacle, so where did that performance come from?, not as if the team has changed or we were down to 10 men or anything?, or the players had stopped playing for the Manager, it's a strange one, still can't get my head around why we were so bad.

i cannot get it out of my head that nothing happened before the KO of that game. pointless banging our heads against the wall as i doubt we,ll ever find out if there was a problem or fake news coming out.

I remember years ago in a dispute where the Engineer was insisting something be done his in a new way he’d thought up….the lads knew better and the foreman told the lads, ”well if that’s how he wants us to do it, we’ll do it his way”……it didn’t work out well.

At 2-0 down Reid had a goal disallowed because his shot (it was going in anyway) hit Caton who was in an offside position.

If that goal had stood I reckon Pools would have fought their way back into contention the way they did the week before at Morecambe.

Instead Pools let in a couple more really soft goals in quick succession and you could see it was game over as far as most of the players were concerned. The problem is Pools didn't have a single leader on the pitch. They're all really quiet and it's been the same for years. That's modern footballers for you.

Ae, that was their only ‘purple patch’ ..light lilac actually but after several opportunities missed, they folded.

you are in good company saying that about the players. different ex managers have said the same about other groups of players we have had. is being quiet a must before we sign anybody as we do not want someone rocking the comfy boat at the club.

At the start of every season the Pools manager of the day tells us that the squad are 'a great bunch of lads' who 'really get on.'

That's fine, but shouldn't a few players who really HATE getting beat and aren't afraid to kick off about it with teammates be in the mix? The last nasty bastad Pools had on the books was Luke Waterfall - trouble is we signed him 3-4 years too late. He's 35 now and in the NLN with Worksop.
