Reasonable performance first half with pools getting men forward into the box . Pools certainly look better with 2 strikers . Plenty of midfielders getting forward too . Sinclair had about 6 chances . It’s a lot more on the front foot from Pools but Featherstone should have been more proactive earlier on in the season than playing in a more defensive manner . We all know the season was over months ago so most of us more relaxed now that we know the door is shut and guess the players know too which is why they are playing with more expression .

Featherstone nearly fucked it up after 80 mins deciding to go with a 5 man defence when we were seeing loads of the ball in their box . With 6 mins injury time pools were pushed back for the last 16 mins and nearly fucked it up. Great tactics Featherstone !!! Last 3 mins yeh he just can’t resist being cautious

OK a win is a win but for me:-

1) a one goal win 4-3 would be much more entertaining.

2) having to play football non entities like Eastleigh is not what my Hartlepools United should be doing!
I was at the Busby Babes ManU cup game and it is depressing seeing where we are now.

That must have been some atmosphere. Coming back to 3-3 from 3-0 down in front of 17’000 odd packed into the ground. Some say there were a few thousand more. I was at the Leeds game in the late 70’s and that was a reported 12k and you couldn’t breathe. Nigh on 20 thousand in there must have been amazing.

Incidentally, just before that game there were 15’000 pack in for a game against Darlo.

In control and creating chances so he takes off the man who'd created most and covered most ground for Walker, after which we were hanging on for dear life simply launching the ball for Oliver to chase for nearly 20mins. Nearly blew it again when we should have been putting them to the sword.

Agree with that. I thought Sherron was good too - best I've seen him play this season. Maybe the problem is we've got a decent starting 11 and not much behind it? Still ridiculous that a centre back hasn't been signed on loan.

It was indeed baffling taking off two willing runners (Miley and Caton) and bringing on 2 players who can't run at all - Walker and Oliver.

Walker is so slow now he should be re-named Walking Frame.

Walker was blowing out of his arse after 5 mins on the pitch, did he actually complete a pass to one of our players at all, it seemed he was intent on giving it to an Eastleigh player every time he had the ball. Not sure who's the least mobile between Oliver and Walker both of whom should be done for trying to impersonate professional footballers.
From what looked like a comfortable win to an uneasy 20 mins of simply hoofing it as far up the pitch to nobody - a masterstroke of football management, fortunately we got away with it.

As much as I’ve been disappointed think part of it isn’t Reid’s fault. He gets absolutely no chances from us.

The changes he made today nearly blew it, we were coasting and in control, from the moment he made subs the game changed. Hope he learns from that, he is still new in the job so maybe it's lesson learned and we move on

Sorry to correct you but I was at the Leeds game (after two postponements) and the crowd was 16k that night, I was in the Town End and it was rammed. We had 12k for the Villa cup game which was a few years earlier.

Fair enough, i worked on (incorrect) memory. If that was the official figure you would probably stick a thousand or two on top. I do clearly remember sitting on the wall on the Mill House side watching the game. Even the walkway between the stand and the pitch was absolutely packed.

I thought the Villa game was about 9000? Biggest home crowd I've experienced at Pools. Great atmosphere.

Yep, I was there that night and remember reading the next day the attendance was around 9,000. Villa took the lead then a Moore equalizer after a McMahon head on from a Shoulder corner.... that was one of Pools regular ploys in those days. I was amazed Villa hadn't done their homework.

Missed the Leeds game, had a ticket and could have made the original date and the first rearranged date but had to work the night it was actually played. Was that the game where they refused to use the away dressing rooms and used the Grand Hotel instead?

Yeah, stuck up flamers, I actually was a big Leeds fan when a nipper, so that game was the first I wanted them to lose. You might be thinking of the Palace home FA cup game which was 9502 crowd.

Yes, I was sure it was a crowd of 9,000. Funny that both PTID and I both have the same attendance figure in our minds. Maybe different figures were reported at the time and later revised.

The official ground capacity in those days was around 17k I think. However, the biggest crowd that I recall in terms of almost being crushed to death trying to get in was the final game of the first promotion season, 67-68 when the official attendance was reported as 12k. I was quite young then though and I had my even smaller cousin with me!

The Leeds game comes up quite regularly on here. Don't think the official attendance for that game counts for much. I was in the Millhouse seats and there were people wedged in the spaces between the stools. Loads of Leeds fans from the town enjoying themselves - worse than plastic Mags.

Was this the occasion that dead rats and mice were (allegedly) strategically placed in the away changing room and the hot water supply turned off? Or am I confusing this with another big game against a club from a higher echelon?

Aye, success was elusive, but we just sort of accepted the then status quo but enjoyed the little rays of sunshine that came along, I could never, ever accept the idea of people travelling to say Sunderland yet called them selves Poolies, ……. but never in the football sense…like certain relations of mine
Always found it a poor man’s version of ‘following’ Man U etc….to me it was the daft lad easy option, they should have endured what we went through like the rest of us.
Ironically, once the IOR era got underway, I noticed certain mercenaries return to the fold..always wondered how May disappeared after IOR sailed into the sunset…..?

its not written in stone you have to support the club where you are from or live. my gripe with those living in the town who support another team is taking the piss out of the club at any opportunity. ok do not support pools but just ignore them if you have no inrerest.

I never said it was….but providing they’re not smart arses who criticised my club I let them live…but some people have to mock…….and that’s unacceptable.
Especially the one who called himself a ‘proud Poolie’.
