Much as I liked Gary Liddle and he really was a great player for Pools, he was a defensive midfielder and later a defender. I’m not sure how that helps us score more goals.

Fev isn't about scoring goals it's about clean sheets for him, and jobs for his mates.

Gary Liddle comes in as First Team Coach at Hartlepool United.

Understand Elliot Dickman could be on his way out, so Liddle’s arrival adds experience of the club / town, but also someone who is widely regarded as a good coach.

Whitby Post.

Whitby Town FC
@WhitbyTownFC
Whitby Town Football Club can announce that Gary Liddle has today departed his position as First Team Manager.

This follows an approach from
@Official_HUFC
, who have appointed Gary to the role of Assistant Manager.

We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.

Great. That's two recent ex Pools players with very little experience in charge for the rest of the season. I'm not saying that Dickman was coaching the lads to a level where they can consistently pass to one another with reasonable accuracy - but paying him off at this point of the season to get Whitbys coach in instead doesn't make any sense.

Whitby Town languishing near the bottom of their league under his tenure so hardly successful under Liddle, another gamble with an ex Pools player, best of luck to him though.

So this will be the background stuff that Feaths was referencing. Presumably Dickman hasn’t been around to take training with him therefore impacting the players.

Same board, same advisors, a feeling of jobs for the boys with Miller and Liddle… throw on top of that some awful football to watch. Holohan returning on the proviso that he will help us score some goals, but he hasn’t scored goals or played much football in the last 12 months. Sinclair signing is an okay one but it’s just that, one good one and not a defining one. In the latest game, Feaths tries new system and then drops our best striker in another 90 where we struggle to create chances. Puzzling.

The ‘push for the play offs’ and ‘this season still matters’ feels like lip service to the fans in respect of what has actually happened and been delivered up to now.

A statement signing or two would actually make it appear as though we are indeed pushing this season. I think York will thump us and really show us what a good and well put together squad looks like by the Uggla’s there. If Pools could use that as a prototype they won’t go far wrong. York have done great business there, including taking Joe Grey from us. Appointment of Maynard also been very good to build on Hinshelwood’s work there.

Personal opinion. Landon needed to start making statement changes now to prove this season still matters, as he puts together more strategic longer term plans. The elation of the takeover has been dampened a bit my side by looking at the immediate ongoings. The appointment of his ‘own person(s)’ would have been a great look that were taking a new path. Not a continuation of Raj’s merry men. Makes no sense to me. All feels a bit, well, underwhelming. Shoot me down… but just expected more than continued appointments of yesteryear legends into the club in the playing and coaching staff. Especially when the main man at the wheel in Feaths has overseen some of the worst drubbings of recent years in Woking, Shots, the FA Trophy and FA Cup. Doesn’t feel progressive for a new owner who wants to do things his way to look towards the past to stimulate the future growth. Pools needs that fresh take like Challinor provided.

Hoping grander plans reveal themselves in time and this is just patchwork for now.

An unbelievable appointment.
I bet he can't believe his luck.
Produces one of Whitbys worst season in years and gets rewarded with a dream Promotion job at Pools.

just when will pools change there name to Royston Vasey. a local club for local people. thought the new regime wanted a new era. we are going back rather than looking forward. next prospective players managers or coaches will need to take a quiz about the area and the club and the one with the most right answers will get the contracts.

Liddle was already at Pools, Liddle joins Nicky Featherstone’s First Team coaching staff following his promotion from the role of Lead Professional Development Phase Coach within the Pools Academy.

Talking about first team coaches, Pools should use this bus to arrive at away matches, the message will strike fear into our opponents!

Welcome to Pools. The NEW era Pools. WHITBY’s gaffer! Our saviour. This is Progression. Best of the best in the non-league game (or northern premier game? Is

So far, a bit of a damp squib of a takeover and initial excitement. Stop hiring ex POOLIES and go find fresh and successful perspectives into the club that have either been successful at this level or higher.

Prove me wrong Landon, bang this on your office wall for when we’re in the play off final.

But right now, I’m calling bluff and saying this season does not matter. I see nothing more than continued mediocrity in Holohan, Liddle, Sinclair and Featherstone. Time to step it right up if we are to believe ‘play offs is the aim’.

If the play offs were the aim we'd be going all out to win games. All talk and nothing to back it up.
We'll be looking for a new manager at the end of the season and falling behind clubs signings new players while we hold fire until a new manager is appointed - Groundhog Days.

Landon is no fool - from what I've heard and read he will be digesting the posts and comments of the Pools fans on forums and social media so he will be well aware of the disgruntled feelings of many fans. I suspect that someone has either 'had his ear' in respect of the recruitment of ex-players in an attempt to win back more of the missing fans or Landon has delegated responsibility to a person or persons within the club to make such decisions. Either way, Landon will probably not be aware that the club has gone down this route on several occasions in the past and the initiative has failed miserably.

What is not in doubt is that Landon clearly believed that a serious push for the playoffs was still possible at the time of the takeover, that we should go for it and have some fun in the process. With all due respect, I don't believe that any Pools players, coaches, backroom staff - and least of all the fans are having 'fun' at present. I would also magine that 'fun' is the last word that Feaths himself would use to describe the last four weeks.

I didn't expect us to cling on to the tailpipe of the 7th placed club for as long as we have, OK so we have picked up a few decent points but the fact that we are still in with a dogs chance of finishing in 7th place is the result of the failures of others as much as anything that Feaths and his inconsistent bunch have achieved.

Of course much of this post is speculation as it's hard - if not impossible - to understand what Landon's initial plan was/is when he took over the club but I would think that he would seek advice from people within the club and those with previous connections. Perhaps he didn't want to appear to be bold, brash and wield the proverbial axe upon his arrival. Unfortunately from a fans point of view this is precisely what many of us did expect!

I have no doubt that Landon knows exactly what he is doing and that all will be revealed/executed in the fullness of time to the benefit of the club. At present however we seem to be stuck in the doldrums between the very long odds of securing the final play-off place and yet another non-event of a season (in respect of on the pitch affairs at least) fizzing out like a bommy night firecracker.

this is the problem you get with an owner living thousands of miles away. he seeks advice from people involved in the club far above the fans. lets dace it we,d have to do the same if we bought a yankie football club. if anyone from pools advised me to shop as asda i,d be straight up to morrisons.

Surely having Liddle on board he should be able to name any potential stars at National League North for us to look at. Both Mcnally and Kougun two of our stand out players were at that level last season.

There are some excellent players within NLN, back in the day Pools regularly tapped that resource. Unfortunately the decent ones prefer to be part time as they can earn more in their day job plus whatever their NL clubs are paying them than the likes of Pools can afford to pay them to go full-time. I'm sure that Lidds would indeed be able to recommend several potentially decent players. However unless Landon is prepared to trigger their release values PLUS pay them a hefty salary that will convince the best ones to go full time I can't see it happening unfortunately.

Whitby are in the Northern premier league which is the league below National league north. Mcnally and Kougun have been our best two players this season, hopefully we can recruit more hungry players like these two instead of ageing pro's seeking one last pay day.

Brad Walker should be available?, had a good 3 months rest, think Featherstone is over egging the pudding stating he can't fill the bench. If Daly and Benn are still injured we've got Reid, Miley, Folarin, Johnson, Brown, Ferguson and Smith who didn't start the last game as well as Walker and Aungiers as back-up.

2 of them will have to start as John and Sinclair will both be unavailable due to them being on loan from York

He could recall Stephenson and the kid from Hepburn or God forbid actually bring in some of the talent he's been anticipating for weeks. It's not as if we didn't know the York game was coming up or that a couple of loanees won't be able to play against their parent club is it?
Can't beat getting your excuses in early.

Good point. Absolutely diabolical recruitment. He's not all that good and he's been chronically injured forever.

Lennie: "Who are we going to replace Mancini with?"

Joe Monks: "Well what can he do?"

Lennie: "Well, when he's fit he can run rings around anyone at this level but mostly he's injured"

Joe Monks "Mmmmmm. Mostly he's injured. I know just the fella (picks up cheque book...)"

You couldn't be more useless at recruiting if you were trying really hard to be the worst ever.

(Sorry I just needed to get that off my chest).

we might get an idea of the type we might be bringing in if these 2 or 3 signings actually arrive at the vic. nowt wrong with a couple of good ageing pro,s in the side as long as its the rite ones.

Featherstone confirmed yesterday that Benn will be available for tonight, so I presume he is going to have to fill in at left back again. I still cant believe that we haven't replace Topalloj who left 6 weeks ago!
