Best Xmas present as a kid…or worst.

When we were about nine, in our road we all got ‘White Hunter Sets’….no doubt banned now on every front, but that was back in the days before the world went mad….Nine of us emerged on Xmas Day with Pith Helmets, water canteen, binoculars and a huge Elephant gun…..and Elephants were fairly hard to come by up the Manor…and caps weren’t cheap…Happy days.

Yep I remember those. I never got one but my mate did. I enjoyed wearing the pith hat.

Best was a bike. Worst was a Scalextric. Boring as watching granny knitting. Didn't matter who was playing, the car on the inside track always won.

raj must have had a scalextric. he loves his toys to come off the rails easily.

Scalextric was one present me and my brother never had,…they came off at the first corner, the Laws of physics saw to that…

Matchbox Motorway was amongs best presents. Loved the idea of using existing matchbox cars on the track. Unlike Scalextrics they didnt fly off.

My best present was the birth of my daughter on Dec 20th thirty six years ago. Nothing jumps out at me as a candidate for the worst.

As brothers we asked for a train set and surprisingly got two train sets, one each, exactly the same, but despite being Triang, they featured an ugly little electric shunter with overhead pantograph…not quite what we wanted…… :think:

A lad called Roger Blamire at my school got a girl up the duff when he was 13. Half the lads in his class had only just got started on the self-abuse!

OBJECTION! - it's not Christmas if you don't get a Chocolate Orange (although you did say Cadburys and NOT Terry's) - I'd be fuming if I didn't get at least 1 Terry's Orange! :naughty:

meant terry,s. still end up getting them in raffles only to recycle the bloody things at one somewhere elses. they get a bog off as her in the kitchen hates them also.

I expanded the thread due to the fact that, when it comes to Christmas, I'm still a kid and probably always will be.

think you might know where i stand on the festival of shopping when old scrooge was my favourite fictional character from dickens. at least the supermarkets make less profit out of ramadan. its the most expensive time of the year. more chance of pools getting a star striker than seeing a white christmas with peace and goodwill to all men lasting till the matchday and the pubs are open longer. if christians has not invented christmas bloody tesco or asda would have.

Best for me, aged 12, was a Hornby Dublo, Duchess of Montrose electric train set.
In order to get it, Mum bought 'clubs' at 16 shillings a pound. Money was tight in the 1950's.

worst christmas was when they announced that the 1976 christmas day would be the last buses would run. always volunteered to do my 4 hour for 8 hours pay to guarentee boxing day off to go to the match. actually the last man to work on that day when i made sure i was the last man out of the office at 6pm.

Working Xmas was shite…..you’d be there on call but doing bugger all….afternoon and the chief engineer comes around to offer ‘Season’s Greetings’…….and a cigar…I’ve never smoked

Worked offshore for Christmas once,night shift, we all eagerly went for our meal at midnight expecting a nice Christmas Dinner nope, a few left overs from the day shift, we were told we should have got up during the day, you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife in the galley. Some one left a card in camp bosses office saying I hope you had a merry fu**ing christmas.
