What about Dominic Cummings, he wae Chief Advisor to Johnson, he has been advisors to a few Tory MPs but has never been an MP, apparently a very powerful man.

For what was published why did they need to spend millions on a public enquiry?
Who didn't know Johnson was a liar and a cheat? Hancock was a liar and a cheat, The Chief Scientist and Chief Medical Officer were both too self centred and didn't take into account the impact on people's health and especially mental health? Cummings is another liar and cheat.
There will be no official accountability, the titles gained and money made won't be taken away. There'll be no compensation either.
What my issue with the Enquiry is where's the list of recommendations to ensure it can't happen again, surely they should be published after each stage so that we can start putting them into action? Leaving them until the end which could be years away could in itself cost more lives.
And overall we have to remember this was a worldwide issue with some countries doing better than us and some worse. Would Starmer have done anything differently and with better outcomes, or Farage, or the Greens, etc - we'll never know. Also credit where it's due to Sunak for the furlough and business loan schemes (even though some used them fraudulently) which were brought in very quickly and saved lots of businesses and jobs. And also credit to the lady who took charge of the vaccination program, we led the world in the development and roll out - one thing that we couldn't have done as part of the EU.

Agree about Sunak and the furlough/ business loans - which undoubtedly saved many businesses (I was working with a hospitality business at the time and it - and 100 staff - would have been doomed had it not been for furlough) but he screwed up with Eat Out To Help Out

think most of us got what we expected at the time and the other party,s would have done similar with the odd tweaks either way. only thing that bothered me about the whole period was how dissenters were quietened, scientists and political commentators if they did not follow the governments line. even now you have to be very careful if you mention any jabs in arms.

I love the way the lefties have jumped all over an enquiry which has cost a fortune and has told us very little if nothing of what we didn't already know or could deduce.
Imagine Keir Starmer or Ed Davey being in the same position as Boris Johnson.
The only important part of this enquiry should be the part which prepares us for the next pandemic, should there be one and sadly that hasn't been forthcoming. Instead we have trial by hindsight and the rewriting of history.
The pandemic was handled by humans and humans, being humans, make mistakes. Opinion differed on lockdown, vaccinations, testing, ppe procurement to name but a few and, at the time nobody knew the perfect solutions, not just here but across the entire World but those people who found themselves exposed to make the best of it are now being harangued to the hilt by people who, faced with the same problems, would not have a clue where to start.
But hey the pathetic crowd who fell for Starmer's promises and bullshit have to find something to cling on to, so fill yer boots lads.

I love the way you keep talking about the lefties Derwent when you were one yourself.
We borrowed and spent more than other countries to respond to the pandemic and the sharp rise in energy prices two years later, an article in the The Times sums it up, the U.K. are brilliant ar generating funds for the legal profession.

No matter who was in power they would have followed the advice of the medical experts who are still in a job or although I doubt they would be having parties in Downing Street.

What about Starmer's soiree in Durham, when Rayner definitely wasn't there then suddenly they remembered she was only to be let off by the Labour leaning Durham Constabulary?
They were all at it and took us all for mugs although as Government officials the Tory transgressions must be deemed the worst.

I buy politics…the one who offers me the best deal gets my vote.
The mugs with loyalty to one political party are the mugs who make no difference whatsoever because their favoured Party has banked their vote years ago.
The floating voters decide who wins elections.
Simple really.

You forgot to mention Starmer and his canvassers eating curry in Durham while planning the Hartlepool by election..and that didn’t turn out well.
Wonder why they weren’t based in Hartlepool…probably found Durham City more to their taste

its made worse by todays party,s are far different from the ones these people originally voted for years ago. unless you vote that way to keep another party out i cannot see why they continue to follow the party line. i,d say most floating voters have a mixture of right and left flowing through their veins and vote for the best of a bad job.

An organisation called Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK are saying Johnson should be prosecuted, some of the MSM agree with them, btw way before Derwent says it they are not a bunch of loony lefties.

the problem here is you could just as easily set up another organisation who would want johnson prosecuted for bringing in restrictions known as lockdowns which ruined there lives and the ones of their kids. you cannot turn the clock back and its pointless trying to do so just for a scapegoat where nothing will change. even a future pandemic could be completely different where its the young who will be in the main danger and older people more or less immune.

As you are in cahoots with all the loony lefties You'll know which way they lean. Are they zealots though or haven't you vetted them yet.

What will they prosecute him for? They made mistakes in a time of worldwide emergency. Should military leaders who make mistakes during wars be prosecuted if soldiers or civilians are killed as a result?
He's guilty of being stupid, and breaking his own laws, and of lying but I can't see any way that he'll face charges.
Labour figures when in opposition said 40,000 ex eds deaths would be caused each year if the Tory's withdrew the WFA and then did it themselves, should Starmer be prosecuted by families of the victims last winter?

Why do you Derwent class anyone who is left of centre as a loony leftie, as a former Labour Party member you must have been left of centre at one time, you must still be as you ditched your membership after the centralist Labour Party initially scrapped the WFA.

Facts are there of how many people died through Johnson’s mismanagement of Covid, there is no evidence available that 1000s of pensioners died because the WFA was stopped, you quote Labour when it suits you.
Let’s prosecute the energy companies for increasing costs year on year even in January when the global price has dropped and could mean pensioners and others not being able to heat their homes or cook food.

There's no actual facts about who died or who was saved by Johnsons government mistakes though is there. It's all estimates, nobody can say for sure that Johnsons actions or lack of actions caused the death of Mr X or Ms Y.
There'll be no jail sentence for Johnson, nor compensation paid, was there criminality?
In the same way there's no evidence to say who died due to Starmer withdrawing WFA.
I quote Labour or anyone else when appropriate to support my viewpoint, unlike you who rarely backs any statement up with anything other than wild opinion from some random streamer who's opinion supports your own, that doesn't make it factual.
Simple question, did Labour say that withdrawing WFA cause 40000 premature deaths when they were in opposition, and did they then withdraw WFA at the earliest opportunity and just before winter giving vulnerable people little time to prepare or adjust? Please try to answer this one without mentioning Trump, Reform, Truss, etc

its a case of people needing a scapegoat now when anything happens and its not a case of an ex pm going against the wishes of parliament that caused anything.

Actually I don't normally use the term loony lefty and was only using it as reference to you using it. The term left of centre covers everything that is left of centre (obviously) and depends where you draw the centre line. Technically too wishy washy for me but that is only an opinion. Same with right of centre.
As a point of order I could protest at your assumption that I would refer to everything left of centre as the loony left when I actually don't do that.
I would only use it as a referral to someone else using it, like I did with you.

It was the Labour Party in 2017 (when in opposition) that cited research suggesting that the Conservative government's proposed cuts to the winter fuel allowance could lead to an estimated 4,000 additional deaths among pensioners that winter, not 40,000.

So, Jamie should Starmer face charges for lives estimated to have been lost due to the wilful withdrawal of the WFA?

Your artificially suppressed Labour bias is showing…answering a question with a question is a basic tactic of this Govermenypt ..

The WFA business is typical of their bullshit economics…take away £300 and give you back £100 and expect you to be grateful…cheeky gets.

You've provided the data yourself to show the expected early death toll from withdrawing the WFA so what more would you need? You want Boris prosecuted for an estimated increased death toll due to COVID decision making but not Starmer for the pre-decision estimated death toll due to withdrawal of WFA? Actually Boris arguably was dealing with many unknowns and made mistakes, Starmer's decision was wilful and malicious. Two tier justice demands from astaunch Labour supporter who'd have thought it eh?

So, Jamie should Starmer face charges for lives estimated to have been lost due to the wilful withdrawal of the WFA?

Can you provide a link to show how many pensioners died because the WFA was intially withdrawn ?

you cannot find that number. its like covid where people died who had it but died of other causes but it might have been a contributory factor.

I have never used the terminology of loony lefty, they are not left of centre, they are far left, I am not.
Who are far left????
looking at todays labour party i,d say far left of today were party activists and voters pre 1997. the new far right would have supported thatcher in her period of office. at least back then you knew the difference and had a choice.
