Tis true and very sad news.

R.I.P Alan.

His time as manager of Pools is overshadowed by following in the footsteps of the great Cyril Knowles, but he more than kept the show on the road. His win % as Pools boss is right up there with Knowles, Clough, Danny Wilson and Challinor. Pools were a very good side till the money ran out and Gary Gibson's fire sale of players started.

Met and spoke to Alan many times during that early nineties period, was a very approachable, mild mannered and intelligent guy, knew the teams strengths and played to them. Will be sadly missed.R.I.P Alan.

Like many Poolies seen our first promotion to 3rd division which was just a pipe dream from the late 70s.

A gentleman…need I say more…he certainly won’t be resting in peace, they must have teams up there or it wouldn’t be heaven.

Best day ever!

RIP a true gentleman of the game took over at a difficult time from Cyril Knowles.

He just carried on in Sir Cyril's footprints and the players responded for him. A great achievement for Him to take us up having been chucked in so to speak.
Never heard anyone ever say a bad word about him, RIP.

A fair few players have stated that if it was not for Alan Murray, we would not have been promoted in 1991.
Cyril was extremely hard on the players, they were frightened to make a mistake. Murray offered a different approach and it worked.
