Pubs have been closing at record rates for years due to the increase in the living wage and rising costs Derwent not just in the last 18 months. Customers have less disposable income, and when they do go out, they may be spending less per visit, some changes in consumer habits that began during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as people drinking less or changing their lifestyles, continue to affect trade.
The U.K. is nearly 3 trillion pounds in debt, that just hasn’t happened since Labour come into government albeit they have made some bad decisions.
The debt has to be serviced either by increasing taxes cutting benefits or whatever, no matter who is the chancellor male or female they will have to make some unpopular decisions which won’t please every one.

But she promised her last budget would fix the black hole and she wouldn't need to come back for more in this parliament, so was she lying or just poor at her job? She is a terrible Chancellor and being a woman is not the reason, not is it the reason she gets so much criticism. She was sharp enough to announce how proud she was to be the 1st female chancellor so uses gender when it suits herself.
Even Labours own Business Minister has said that all of her dithering, public statements, and U turns are hurting our economy and investment in the UK, in exactly the same way she talked down the economy and the country between the election and her last budget. It's as if they want the country to fail.
