then who are to blame if match officials are bad. its the players themselves for giving them the decisions they make. they are not going to alter referees decisions or make them better by there actions in games. you get this down at parks level football where you as a red are known to both teams. they know you are strict on certain laws of the game from the outset but bleat about it from the ko to the final whistle instead of just getting on with the game themselves.

Players, officials, the FA, the media, are all to blame for the state of the game today imo.
Go back to basics and consistently enforce the rules of the game. Yes we'll initially see more cards for cheating, and penalties, but players will learn and adapt. Use VAR retrospectively at the higher levels to stamp out all the diving and face holding where no contact is made - ban the habitual culprits. Why do linesmen rarely "see" anything other than offsides and ball out of play? They rarely see obvious fouls and shirt pulling, never mind the obvious foul throws which are commonplace.
Standards of officiating are dropping imo. Having said that I wouldn't do the job!

the job of a linesman should be written in stone and not at the whims of a referee in the middle. when i had them i asked them to flag every incident they saw, however when i was on the line myself i was told just to do offsides and balls out of play by a few. i enjoyed doing over 25 years in the job apart from being on the line with certain refs because of what i said earlier. made far more friends than enamys and only packed in because of politics coming into the game and having to do a course in good old DEI or DIE as i prefer to call it that i flatly refused to take part in plus my earlier stance on womens football which seemed to black ball me on County Cup appointments.

It's a shame the TV pundits aren't as quick to criticise diving and cheating players as they are referees. It's quite obvious that a lot of the referees at NL level see the assistants as a necessary evil for offsides and ball out of play situations, stupid really because a decent lino can help the refs enormously if allowed and thereby save all 3 of them from embarrassment and abuse.

I've just seen Halifax's penalty and it was never a pen.

We defended well but seemed lost in the final third.

watched the recording of the full game yesterday. actually thought the ref handled the game quite well and did not fall for the halifax falling down tactics. they were not diving about but just falling over making a meal of challenges. very little he cpuld have done about in that are in the laws of the game but ignore them. the camera angle for the penalty was better than pools fans had at the opposite end of the ground and contact was made. although saying that we have had similar shouts turned down in other games. seems another world ftom me being a kid and seeing pools get a good kicking there which seemed to happen on a regular basis. just wish i could turn the clock back and i was going to school this morning amongst the buggers.

There was one incident in the first half where the player rolled around clutching his head - minimal contact appeared to have been made. The referee (correctly) waved play on, but it left a bad taste. Another referee could have easily misjudged that as an elbow and sent out player off. It was a deliberate attempt to con the referee and I did not like that.

its bad enough players trying to con the referee, but its made even worse when they surround the ref moaning when they do not get away with it. can see some problems with halifax this season if they come up against a more aggressive team than pools.
