This gets a mention on other threads on where and others feel we should be. For me given our gates and the real possibility of over 6,000 poolies in the vic we should be a league 2 club with a few years like we are having at the moment but with a real chance of promotion. Be interesting what others think

When Pools were promoted back to the Football League in 2021, we should have consolidated our position in League 2.
We did not due to some terrible decision at all levels. It was unforgivable that we were relegated after such an emotional high.
Challinor leaving the club was the turning point, I am not blaming him but he was never properly replaced and that led to where we are now.
We should be in League 2 and I agree with your thoughts but the reality is that it is going to take something special to get out of the position we are in now!

With the current set up mid table just avoiding relegation year on year.

Where we are now division 5 should never be accepted by anybody connected to HUFC.

We have the potential and Fanbase(some fans hate that statement) to function ok in league 1 (division 3).
Our history shows it can be done

The club has to be run correctly from the top downover.

Like Higgy says we just going round in circles.

It's yet again anutha managerial appointment and season wasted.

We got no choice but to cut Smithy a bit of slack.
I genuinely believe his intentions were there when he took over to deliver the goods.

From next season it's deffo onto him to at least re-create anutha play off push.

He has to learn and learn fast.

I wasn’t sure that I’d see us back in the EFL in my lifetime (I’m mid 50’s) so after securing promotion in 2021 it was a case of we’ve made it back surely we can’t mess up and end up back in NL anytime soon.
How wrong I was.
Back to thinking I may never see us back as an EFL club.

Which is more likely? Pools back in the EFL or England winning a trophy?

Unfortunately, it’s probably exactly where we are. Sure, we get bigger crowds than many of the clubs in this league, but historically we’ve never been a successful club. It was mentioned in another thread, we had to be re-elected to the league year after year, and outside of the 2000s have never had a lick of consistent success. We were circling the drain in league 1 and 2 for several years just barely hanging on. There’s clubs in our league who are “bigger” than us (or at least have achieved more than us) such as Scunthorpe, Southend and Carlisle, and others such as Notts County who were here for far longer than the size of their fanbase would suggest they should’ve been.

The fact we’ve been terribly run for almost as long as I’ve been going to matches combined with our history suggests our level is between league 2 and national league and we’re basing us being bigger or better than this on a period which was actually an outlier.

If it was purely down to fanbase then Southend would be romping the league, and in fact should never have been here. Similarly Carlisle.

Okay both Southend and Carlisle were away on Saturday but we had 1500 more at our game than any other match in the division, so to be serving up the crap our fans have had to endure so far this season is nothing short of a crime.

You also need to bear in mind that our attendance on Saturday was 2000 down on our first game of the season. As others have said, the number of people on the terraces watching is irrelevant, it's the players on the pitch that count..... and a sugar daddy owner to pay for it!!

Plenty of teams comfortably put together a promotion challenge in this division.

Er And they have shit support And Ain't sugar daddy backed.

To suggest we shit because we ain't bankrolled enough is a pathetic excuse.

Other clubs are better in the employment procedure and they certainly won't retain deadwood.

Smithy got anutha stab at it next season to transfer his business skills to Football.

It's a long wait but that's just the way it is

Well of course it was down..,the footballs worse than abysmal…that’s what happens.
The number of fans is important, very important for reasons so bleedin obvious that an explanation would be pointless.
The players obviously count…but to count they hav3 to get of their arses and shape up……The ‘SugarDaddy’ jibe has always referred to clubs with ridiculously low gates but decent managers and players…not viable on gate receipts.

fans might be important but less so now than at any stage of the game. rich owners throwing money at clubs with a possibility of some extra funding through sponsorship from there mates. everyone really hopes these clubs crash and burn but only rushden and diamonds have and its the bury,s of this world who get into the shit even with the crowds they got. once football was simple where clubs with the biggest grounds got the higher attendances so were succesful now its more of an open game with brentford in the premier and sheffield wed where i like to see em div.1.
