Apparently Starmer is off to cosy up to the EU by giving Ukraine an extra £1bn a year support.
So far we've spent or have committed nearly £22bn up to 30/31.
Meanwhile the EU collective 27 states have committed about £170bn.
Considering that Ukraine neighbours a few EU countries and the 27:1 ratio that seems a bit lopsided to me.
How the feck can we afford this - oh yes, higher taxes. Has he got a mandate for this or is it political posturing?

I see Tony Blair has popped up with a suggestion from his ‘think tank’ that the state pension should be abolished and replaced with a ‘Lifetime Fund’ which would also require a further five years work before receiving it.
Funny how ex PM’s used to retire with a bit of dignity and disappear, but it seems Tony has his cabinet in the shed pontificating as though he’s still in charge…what are pensioners supposed to live on…the pension was paid into by workers and h3 wants to replac3 it with somethin* tha5. Sounds like a charity for the needy…doubt the ‘State Pension’ will ever be a problem for him.

Tony Blair still has a huge influence in the Labour Party, when suggestions like this come up they turn into reality in some shape or form. All parties realise we are living to long that’s why the retirement age keeps going up hoping we might pass away before reaching pension age.
The UK state pension is primarily funded on a "pay-as-you-go" (PAYG) basis, meaning current National Insurance contributions (NICs) from workers and employers pay for the pensions of current retirees. It is an unfunded system, meaning no massive pot of assets is set aside for future liabilities; instead, it relies on tax revenues and ongoing contributions

What would you rather have, Russia to take over Ukraine, who would be next after that ? The Russian navy has already been sailing in the channel and the North Sea, they are not there for a pleasure cruise but to identify pipelines, power supply cables and telecommunications cables.

His job is to look after the English in England.
Thats what every other country in the world does.
Puts its own people first.

Stop this shit of donations
Stop the boats.
Stop paying out lavish style unemployment benefits.
Keep the State Pension n Triple Lock forever to catch up with other European Countries.

I could go on.

The point is why are we paying proportionally more than say the Eastern European EU members who are more at risk from Russian invasion? Why are we taking more and more money away from our vulnerable people to arm Ukraine?
As for Russian spy ships in English waters, that's been going on for decades, I can remember reports in the Hartlepool Mail from when I was a boy about them being off the headland. Why would Russia want a war with the UK, they're a superpower and we're a minnow in terms of World Standing, Militarily, and finances?
When did we vote to increase taxes to support a foreign nation, when did we vote for closer ties with the EU ( the body that screwed us over big time when we left)?

it does not matter a jot what we want even if nearly 100% agreed the same. its just what the westminster elite want which includes many who have not had a vote for them for years. the UK still think its a major player on the world stage. in football terms its more like sheffield wednesday.

Your knowledge of Soviet naval strategy is based on what exactly…?

Most other countries in Europe pay out far more generous pensions than we do,we’re well down the scale…so how come they can manage it….priorities need sorting out, but the egotistic/ out of touch middle class politicians of most Partys’ seem to be orbiting another planet.

I left school at 16 and have been working ever since. I’m 65 this year but now have to wait another 2 years for my pension☹️

That wasn’t the deal, and that’s along time working.

Plus, life expectancy is going down now.

March 2026: HMS Tyne monitored the Ropucha-class landing ship Aleksandr Otrakovsky and cargo vessel Sparta IV in the English Channel and North Sea.March 2026: HMS Mersey tracked the Steregushchiy-class frigate RFN Soobrazitelny and tanker MV Anatoly Kolodkin.April 2026: HMS Somerset and HMS Mersey conducted a 10-day monitoring operation of a Russian task group, including a Kilo-class submarine, a destroyer, and a frigate."Shadow Fleet" Concerns: Over 300 sanctioned or suspected Russian-linked ships have passed through the English Channel in 2026, sometimes escorted by Russian naval vessels, causing concerns over "military-relevant" cargo.

Did the previous government of 14 years improve your life style in their time in office, they initially imposed the freeze on the income tax threshold although Labour has since extended it, hidden tax.

Jamie, sometimes you’re like a dyslexic on an Ouija board.
Do you know what HMS Mersey is…?
