What was that on YouTube about a 999/1 winner the other day at the races, didn't make sense to me, unless it was a roll-up?

It suggests a multiple accumulator of sorts, unless it was some sort of competition where the prize was a £1k prize winning ticket at a cost of £1 per ticket. Or it could be a £1,000 tote win declared to a £1 stake. I can't see a bookie chalking up 999/1 against any horse, although there is nothing to stop him doing that.

It was an in-running bet, not in to horse racing but apparently you can still bet whilst the horses are running, I suppose it’s like betting on footy during the game.

Quite correct Jamie.

A 999/1 winner in running, also means that some people have backed the 1.01 likely winner!
So backers of the 1.01 lose heavily and the layers of the 999/1 winner also lose a lot!
