What is Chandra…?

Chandra is the name of the latest storm, which is voted for by the public. However, the name Chandra is the name for the Hindu god of the Moon, who represents emotions, plants, and the night.

Storm names are chosen by public suggestions and popularity and pronunciation is taken into consideration. The Met Office chooses "some of the more popular names and names that reflect the diversity of the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands".

The Met Office said: "A number of factors are considered for a name to be on the list, including how difficult it might be to pronounce, if it has different meanings across the different countries, if it is connected to a significant public figure and if it could be considered to be controversial in some way.

I'd bet about 98% of the UK population don't know who or what Chandra is. Hardly popular and certainly controversial given the very small Hindu population of the UK.

Can we just settle for some geographical feature of Western Europe for naming storms…I doubt the Indians would have ‘Storm Biscay’ for instance.

can,t we just go back to a forecast where its stated some places will have stormy conditions. we were supposed to have rain, snow and winds up to 60mph in our local forecast but all we got was a strong breeze and drizzle on the tops.

I suspect they use it to wind everyone up like the crazy colours on the weather maps….another part of the Net Zero programme.
