Don't think it'll be necessary - the government is about to announce yet another U-turn.

It's the greed of the PubCos that are screwing the landlords, the other stuff is very much secondary.

more or less its too many pubs around that are needed in this day and age. times have changed with possibly more non drinkers than ever plus cheap supermarket stuff for most tastes.

Totally different generation to going to the pub from the last 20 years.

The allday drinking hours meant less capacity n higher bills for the publicans.
Then the young guns would drink at home then go out 10pm till 4am.

Then the biggest killer of pubs Covid kicked in.
Resulting in back gardens getting turned into beer gardens at a £1 a pint from the Supermarkets.

The Hartlepool pub prices ain't to bad compared to the rest of the country but we must of lost about 20 over the last 20 years.

But ye the government has played a major part in closing them down.

There are just too many pubs on the breadline that offer nowt but crap drinks and atmosphere just like much of the rest of the retail sector.
Fosters and John Smiths anyone?

I have never understood why the Seagull site has never been redeveloped (housing)?????

They have knocked the Engineers down but a huge pile of rubble remains..........why it looks crap or has the "development" stalled???

I'm sure the seagull non Redevelopment has something to do with underground foundations problems from the old pits along that coastline.
The caravans n Golf Course are getting closer to the sea.
Like I've said previously the 11th tee is a lot closer to the sea now than 40 years ago.

a help to the pubs would be to allow them to have the same accountants, owners and a blind eye looking at them like the vape and barbers shops.

Supermarkets have always had the upper hand regards alcohol sales.
Value Added Tax (VAT): Pubs and restaurants pay 20% VAT on all food sales, while supermarkets pay zero VAT on most food items.
Business Rates: Pubs pay significantly higher business rates per pint of beer compared to supermarkets

Many years ago I looked at leasing a pub through a Pub Co, they were only offering run down loss making places, you were committed to buy all the stock from them even though most of the products were cheaper in the supermarket apart from the beer obviously. The more profit you made the more the rent went up and if you turned it round they took it back off you at the end of the lease. You were responsible for all the fixture and fittings and the integrity of the premises, it didn’t take long to decide running a pub wasn’t for me.

Yes that would make sense but i am surprised it has not been burnt down.
Arson gets redevelopment done, the planning process and councils etc do not.

whats the list though of those still open. guess the number will be similar or greater. its a bit like unemployment statistics that say 40% are unemployed but that also means 60% are in work. supermarkets are to blame, but blame can be thrown at them for closure of petrol stations, other shops etc. but how many would want to go back to the days before they existed.

Supermarkets finished small businesses even petrol stations, it was a loss leader the same as milk, the most annoying thing about supermarkets and Aldi are the most guilty one i found is you can’t buy loose fruit or vegetables.

feel they have never been there for the pensioners and single people. they still have there multiple buts to save some money but only families larger the better can save that way. they moan about packaging but they are the worst of anybody.

Red Admiral,
Hourglass,
Station Hotel,
Golden Flatts,
There’s huge areas of the town with hardly any pubs.

Up in Blackhall you can only drink in one pub the Wick {Hardwick Hotel), and three clubs, the RAFA, Navy Club and Cricket Club (limited opening), apart from the Seagull which closed many years ago there was also the Legion, Trust (Chimneys latterly), Workingman's Club the Angling Club (Don's Den) and the Miners Welfare which have all gone over the years.

If the pubs get a helping hand ,hospitality and the high streets will be expecting the same.Hotel business rates are expected to rocket....How long now before a dirty weekend away will be a thing of the past.

Cheap beer at home is hardly the same as being in a pub …unless you’re an alcoholic..

Dangers of drinking at home is the bar never closes and the wine and spirits measures are larger than what you get in a bar.

Agreed - it's a slippery slope and not one you'd want to be too well acquainted with.
I have plenty of drink in the house but rarely touch it nowadays and going to the pub is too expensive, to be having big sessions like the old days. I go out for a couple of pints about once a month on average. I don't miss it, like I thought I would back in the day. Also having kids puts you off- no good being hungover around them either at home or at work. Think in over twenty years as a teacher, I've only once had a steaming hangover at work and vowed never again,, hence I might have the odd beer on a school night, but that's about it.

I made the mistake in the mid 80’s as a guest in a RAF sergeants mess in Germany of saying I’ll just have the beer you’re drinking..I found out why the called it ‘Woobly’.
Haven’t had a drink for 12 years but still go out to pubs, drinking at home may be cheaper, but it’s not the same.
