Well they're on strike again! What do we all think?

Personally, this time I think they're taking it too far.

They had a whopping pay rise last year, a decent one offered this year - and government offers of better conditions for the near future.

Yet this still isn't enough.

Also (I've been told this from a doctor) it's the time of year where young student graduates are due to have their induction week, however a lot of the doctors will be missing meaning it will knacker their plans too.

they want parity to the position they were in 17 years ago. big problem is many other workers in the private and the public sectors think the same but make the best of a bad situation. question to ask is should they be seen as a special case or just intelligent people doing a job they want to do an not work forced upon us.

Sharp as a Stanley Knife…..the doctor sounded a bit robotic.
Good on Wes Streeting ….says the striking doctors last time were doing locum work to cover their wages on strike, he’s closed that off…no money does sharpen people’s thinking.

They are taking the piss- 28% rise in one year and they're still whining. refred

I've lost out on thousands in the last 17 years too with constant pay freezes, or a token 1%, whilst also having my 'gold plated' pension downgraded to pewter - even though I'm paying more in.

In fact the years we did get a rise, they took more off us in pension contributions so I ended up actually worse off. That's without the rise in the cost of living and the Liz Truss disaster, which is still costing me monthly, in increased mortgage repayments. banghead

Think they should be grateful for what they've been offered and get on with the job they're paid to do. Can't see the public supporting them, should this continue.

think public support has dwindled as there financial situation is closer to yours than theres. they like others knew the situation regarding pay and conditions when they decided to take up the job and unlike many more they were not forced into a job because it was the only option available to keep there pride in working for a living.

If you have the power to get more pay, use it, just like the rich have used their power over the last 40 years or so, to take money from the poor to give to themselves. The exact opposite of what happened between 1950 and 1979, when thanks to the Labour and trades union movement, money was taken from the rich and diverted towards the poor, with improved pay, conditions, services and infrastructure.

Yeah - everyone had a great time in the 70s Colin. At the end of the 70s the country was in fantastic fettle.

That was a Party Political Broadcast for the Labour Party that doesn’t exist anymore.

You mean hold companies/governments to ransom, plenty tried but failed the miners for one.
The difference is private companies won’t be held to ransom, I spent over 30 days on strike offshore in the southern sector of the North Sea, we were told our ‘demands’ would be met, parity with the workers in the Northern sector of offshore workers. Nope as soon as we returned onshore the companies back tracked then sacked us all eventually.
In the 80s North Sea workers went on strike for better terms and conditions, they weren’t unionised, anyone who mentioned unions was NRB’d not required back.it was fallacy that rig workers were on mega bucks. Again the oil companies just sacked everyone and you were invited back on reduced terms and conditions.

Absolutely no sympathy, they got a huge increase last year by holding labour to Ransom, now they are doing it again. That's just one of the problems with a labour government though. It will be interesting to see what the government do next, they surely can't cave again

They keep quoting the basic hourly rate for their job while failing to mention all the the mandatory allowances they receive…they’re looking naive and self obsessed and not understanding that public opinion can turn quickly on those basically taking the piss.
They are living up to the ‘junior’ title with their total lack of relativity to other wage earners.

To be on strike in December.
Total twats putting ordinary people at huge risk for personal greed.
Most are junior doctors who are apprentices. The remainder are doctors who did not make Consultant status and are still well paid.

I should point out that not all junior doctors are on strike.

But….those on strike are taking the piss and detached from reality.

The Government gave in too quickly to them and were warned by the Doctors themselves that they would be back time and again until their perceived parity was achieved and here they are.
Me Mam used to say, there are people who you could give the Sun and the Moon to and they would still come back for the stars.

They were riding the COVID wave of popular support last year but that's gone now, they're not a special case and certainly not in the public sector, teachers and emergency services workers, council employees have all seen real term wage erosion over the same period but haven't received a bumper rise like the Drs got last year. Greedy, self-centred bastards.

I was talking to a 'resident doctor' yesterday about 'noise cancelling' headphones - he'd just bought a pair as his new born son keeps him awake at night!

Astonished by the story, I asked him how he chose which make to buy and he recounted a story of him working on a children's ward and making repeated calls to an emergency unit - as the phone wasn't being answered our hero wandered (I can't imagine him running) to the emergency unit - here he found the 'on duty' expert watching a fillum on his laptop with a pair of noise cancelling headphones. I was hoping for the punchline to be that the doctor was sacked/ reprimanded - but no, it just showed what a great pair of headphones he was using.

And these idiots feel that they deserve another pay rise! Yes, some are great - but many are self entitled pricks.

And if I need NHS attention, my name is Poolie27.

Surely the last thing you’d do is not want to hear the cry of a baby….?
They cry when they need something, it’s a pain sometimes, but you have a duty of care towards your child.

just one of those subject i,m in two minds about. part of me thinks after all the years of study and hard work they put in they deserve everything they can get. then think well they gave not done too bad already if only they were more happy to work weekends like a lot of others do. deel as a nation we do value nurses more than doctors and they,d get more public support.

The British Medical Association are the worst union ever created. Whatever your politics they make Scargill and Red Robbo seem like pussy cats.
The only way to get them to do something is to "stuff their mouths full of gold"

Streeting is now attacking the Doctors cos he thinks he has the public on his side. When he caved in last time and dished out massive inflation busting pay rises to them they warned him that was only the start and said we will be back next year. Well "next year" is now here and, true to their promise, they are back. He can't say he wasn't warned.

I remember the current government accusing the previous government of not being prepared for covid when they were in opposition. We now have a bit of a flutter over this year's flu outbreak, so they'll have to find someone to blame, my bet is the doctor's will get tagged to that one. No way will they ever say "we are unprepared". The beds, however, are filling up and the trolleys are poised in the corridors, so we shall see.

Any strike at this time is misguided.
Flu kills 8000 a year and the take up of the flu vaccine is only 55%.
This is an issue not to be sniffed at.

8000 sounds a hell of a lot of deaths, but like every other statistic like road deaths its a very small percentage of the population who will be involved. Feel we have gone to a situation where even one death is too many without some knee jerk reactions.

I never used to get the jab but do,it as a matter of course now.
The jab doesn’t stop you getting it, but certainly does make the effects a lot less painful..
Surprising how many people who have a heavy cold call it the flu, there’s no comparison.

I've had all the jabs available to my age group. I get a cold now and again (got one now) but not as severely as to it stopping me.

My cold is receding and fortunately it stayed as a sneezy, runny nose and stayed away from me throat and chest. I think the jabs reduced it to a nuisance rather than something serious.

83% vote to continue with the strike.
Why not 63%?

Like I have said before the doctors told Streeting they would be back and he obviously didn't take them seriously and now he's panicking, which is why he's lashing out.
Stopping the strikes with his massive gift to them has enabled him to brag he's got the waiting lists down, which has been achieved because of no cancellations due to strikes. Now that the strikes have reared their heads again the waiting times will go back up again.
The percentage rise they got was a massive cave in and now they've tasted blood the doctors want more.
The hard fact is this bunch of amateurs couldn't run a piss up in a brewery.
It's everything they touch.

I heard they’re after a 26% rise….looks like they want there rises to make up for what they never get down the years……it doesn’t work like that.

They were demanding ridiculous percentage increases from the last Government but got nowhere and when this lot gave in to 22%, I was surprised at the size of the cave in but not surprised at the same time. Recipe for disaster came to mind and so it is panning out. Streeting is wounded by this latest behaviour and I suppose he'll feel betrayed after caving in so much last year He was warned though. Although I consider his dilemma is totally of his own making, I don't envy him the task of sorting this out. He surely can't succumb to another massive increase.

Not sure. 22% sticks in my mind. Even worse cave in if they gave them 29%. I thought their original claim was over 30% though.
