If anyone can help, maybe by checking what your gas boiler is doing it would be much appreciated.

My gas boiler comes on for around 30 mins first thing in the morning, heats the water with 66 degrees being the the flow temp, hot water in cylinder is heated up to 60 degrees. Radiators warm up nicely and the boiler's temp after 30 mins goes to 67,68, 69, 70 within a few seconds and switches off.

The flow temp then falls to around 57/58 within 30 seconds, a few minutes later the boiler comes on and then is on for around 10-15 seconds, flow temp goes from 57 to 70 and then the boiler switches off. It then repeats this every 4 mins all day long.

Checked the cylinder thermostat that is working fine and it is closing the valve to the cylinder when 60 degrees is reached.
Room thermostat has been checked and that is fine.

Looked online and all I can find is that the boiler is short cycling and needs to be looked at.
Have booked up an engineer to call round later this week to check what is going on.

Just wondered what everyone else's boiler is doing when the CH is on?

My boiler is a glowworm condensing boiler for water and central heating.
Got the tank in the loft and the cylinder in the airing cupboard.

Hot water is fine and so are the radiators but I have never experienced the boiler doing this on/off every 4 mins.

Any help would be greatly received....

Could be a faulty heat sensor, it's assuming it's dropping too quickly (or low temperature) and kicking in, most boilers now have inbuilt anti frost sensors so as soon as the temperature drops they perform a short cycle to keep the pump active and stop the water within the system from freezing. I suppose you could turn it off altogether if it's annoying but if not best to leave it on.

just get a heat pump installed. you know it makes sense plus you can lecture us all about the bit you are doing to save mankind.

If it's only happened today could be condensate drain pipe is frozen, think it's common and particularly for boilers in lofts?

Been doing this for a while, in fact since its last service last month.
Engineer is due round today so will find out what the problem is.

Well after several visits, it was found that the engineer who did the service left the kW too high instead of resetting it back to what it was when he left!

Also subsequent work to try and resolve the issues resulted in the sensors being incorrectly wired, which meant the boiler kettled and shut down leaving me with no CH and HW for a few days.

Also one of the engineers had not set the balancing and return valves up correctly resulting in an incorrect flow of heat through the system and finally I discovered today that the new cylinder thermostat which was fitted the other week, well the cap had been put on incorrectly so that the hot water was wanting to be heated up to 80 degrees instead of 60 degrees. I have corrected that by lining up the groove of the cap with the arrow of the dial.

Incompetence is probably too weak a word to use!!!

A strong complaint has gone in!

Company is British Gas with the homecare product for anyone interested who was to blame!!!!

By tepid shower do you mean the government front bench or left wing zealots in general.

That is no surprise given what a friend of mine who had his own business and then went to work for them for a short time.
Go independent by googling Gas Safe engineers in my area.

Give over Snowy - you're becoming as repetitive as a Starmer lie - we've a heat pump and the shower is far from tepid.
