The Poolie Bunker

Howay then....let's have your 5 things about Grimsby!!!!

I've never been so I haven't got any!!!! :-(

1. It obviously stinks of fish. No, it really does....
2. It is the home of the National Fishing Heritage Centre.
3. If you sniff and look at any of their lasses, they just say, NO!!!
4. We bashed 'em 8-1 a couple of seasons ago.
5. Their MP is called Austin Mitchell which sounds like a car name.

1.The last time here the wind from a storm the night before blew a ruddy big chunk of the stand off and was still flapping about on the day of game. The ref was out inspecting the damage as we walked into the ground, but he gave the go ahead.

2. It was Boydy's first game back for us after his recall from Boston. He went on to score both goals as we won 2-0,he never looked back after that and the rest is history.

3. Mr Cooper was banished to the stand,FOR chucking a towel on the floor as he and the ref went nose to nose.

4. The road to and from the ground has a lot of massage parlours and beauty shops.

5. The ground is not the best to go to.

1. we beat em 8-1
2. when we beat em 8-1 i took my smoggie mate to his first ever pools match!
3. prior to beating em 8-1 we'd had a run of 0-0's [well all the games i'd took jack to had been 0-0], anyhoo i never took him to the 8-1 game cos it were a night match an that...he went mental!!
4. errr have I mentioned 8-1?
5. :?

1. Robinson (P)
2. Strachan
3. Humphreys
4. Gabbiadini
5. Williams (E)

Special thanks to Paul Groves for helping keep my list down to 5!

1. We played Stockport away the week after the 8-1 thrashing. 2-1 saw Gabbiadini get a screamer and Carlton Palmer's long-overdue sacking.

2. Grimsby played Darlo the season after, a game I went to (and sat with the Grimsby fans, obv). Darlo won 1-0, with Grimsby getting about 20 shots on goal and Darlo getting... yes, you've guessed it... 1. No justice.

3. The ground's actually in Cleethorpes.

4. The guy who founded Grimsby was called Grim, with "-by" meaning village. Yes, it's a grim village.

5. The Dock Tower in Grimsby's port wasn't bombed in the Second World War because the Luftwaffe used it as a landmark*. It was also less bombed than most other places as it would have been one of the first places the German land army would have invaded due to its infrastructure and facilities.

*EDIT: There were even plans by the British Government to demolish it for that very reason

1 - You can get a 3 bedroom end terraced house in Grimsby for £47,000
2 - There is a town called Grimsby in Canada
3 - It used to be called 'Great Grimsby',presumably trading standards objected.
4 - Elton Johns 1974 album Caribou featured a song called Grimsby.
5 - Hartlepool United scored 8 goals against Grimsby on the day that Johnny Cash died.

no frigging way?!! really???

that by-passed me that did

RIP JC

Fraid so Salty,12 September 2003.
Think of that result as our tribute to JC

When Billingham Poolie worked for Tioxide at Greatham, the running section arranged a run between the Grimsby & Greatham factories to coincide with an 'open day'. Ken (sorry Tarquin) and I drove down to Grimsby to plan a route back to Hartlepool, and the smell as you approached Grimsby was really awful. Glad I didn't work there.

Tarquin???????

PoolieKev - Ask PoolPower

I would but he has got a right mug on about Ritchie!!

1. Hartlepool don't beat Grimsby often but when they do, they hammer them.
2. I read somewhere that although we hung the monkey, it sent to Grimby to be tried first. Anyone else heard this? :?
3. There team colours are black and white, just like Dar-low and when we beat them 8-1 we sang "are you Darlow in disguise".
4. More pizzas are produced in Grimsby than anywhere else so all you fat bar stewards will be having a whale of a time.
5. Paul Robinson was on loan at Grimsby. He returned to bang 3 goals past them. Jon Daly was once on loan at Grimsby...he returned to...
