Seeing as how we are now to get them I’m still puzzled as how they claim it will stop the channel chuggers…?
As we cannot verify their backgrounds it’s a pointless reason as most who join the black economy will be working for those who also don’t give a toss about having an ID card.
I dislike the idea of all your background which will be on this can now be accessed by god knows who, with consequences that we may well regret.

I agree. To me it won’t solve the issue that it’s supposedly been set up to, because illegal workers will still do illegal things to work but maybe that’s missing the point?

The point being that the government want it. But the government can’t build a railway line successfully, they can’t control our borders, and worryingly enough ( in relationto this matter) they continue to lose information from hackers.

I notice it says if you want to work or rent a house you will need a card, so maybe people who fall in here will never need one of these golden cards but I reckon it will be a slippery slope.

Meanwhile, at the illegal doss house somewhere in London. Twenty odd illegal workers are sleeping on the floor.

“okay chaps, wake up, Charles,Tarquin, Henry, James, gather round. Now listen up, because the new digital I’d card system has been brought in, unfortunately we can now no longer rent out this space to you and my brother can no longer give you work in his restaurants. We simply can’t break the law you see, so you will now all have to pack your bags and jolly well go back home”

We've had a central ID card system in Denmark for donkeys years. If you want to live here you have to have whats known as a CPR number. Without a CPR number you can't have a bank account, you can't have a doctor, you can't have a job, you can't get a place to live or receive any benefits (and the list goes on and on).

The upside of this is that it's extremely difficult to slip under the radar and live in Denmark (illegal migration). The downside is that you can't so much as fart without the tax authorities knowing about it.

Some deluded "lefty" on the TV last night saying it will help the NHS by refusing treatment to people who haven't an I/D card, well for years we've had NHS numbers, NI numbers, driving licences, passports which they could have made compulsory before treatment and haven't bothered, so if you turn up at A&E after sawing your finger off they're going to chase you away if you haven't got your I/D card on you.....yeah that's going to happen. Anything involving Blair and Starmer I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Thing is, if that rule was applied here, the so called illegals would have no access to anything…so they’ll be dished out to them like confetti…point defeated.
One MP mentioned air miles…..and how it would be possible to limit air miles to save the plane, easily accessed from you gigital ID card……unless you’re only flying to Bridlington.

for years and years there have been sweat shops in big cities where little has been done if anything to close them down. so what difference will a card make unless they are suddenly going to get tough on these places. Cannot see that happening as the middle class lefties will be out shouting all sweat shops welcome here. then will the police have the power to ask to see the cards anywhere in public and what happens if you have left yours at home. we all know the problem a certain section of the population have with stop and search never mind being asked for a card. feel the whole thing is about control rather than immigration.

honestly can anybody see a situation where illegals get only one offer when they come here. the bus fare home. we might want to stop the boats and control immigration but doubt any government in the last 30 years do.

Haven't posted for a while as so many of the topics bleed into one and the place is very one dimensional regarding politics. That said, I was interested to read what people were saying about ID cards.

Ages ago (maybe two years or so) I posted talking about ID cards and how they could help cut down illegal immigrants living and working in the country. At the time I said I thought people would be against this and was surprised at the number of people replying that they weren't against ID cards. It feel like an issue were there was some consensus actually. This was prior to Labour being voted in though - it seems now, there has been an about-face on the subject, at least by some of the posters above. I wonder whether this is because Starmer suggested it?

Bar only a couple of European countries, they all have ID cards, which could help tackle immigration, fraud, identity theft, voter fraud etc. There is plenty of evidence that one of the draws for illegal immigrants targeting the UK is the lack of ID system and I'm pretty confident the majority on here want to see migration falling. I'd actually go further and link to health records, so that from birth there is a digital record of any issues, which would massively improve continuity of healthcare and replace the current creaking system.

For those against it, I guess there is this feeling that we're being snooped on? I find this odd though, in the age we live in - the vast majority of people willingly share their data to private companies on a daily basis without any thought for what that information is used for. (Largely your data is used to make companies and individuals incredibly rich!)

I think for many, if Elon or Nigel say it's bad then that will be enough for many to follow suit without really looking at the benefits. That's a real shame as there should be real consideration of the opportunity in my view.

You make some good points Mikey. Pros and cons to the idea, but I doubt very much it will stop the illegal immigrants coming across.
They have no I.D. when they arrive, so what difference will it make not having another one!

If the government want to push it through, they will, however it looks like there will be a very large number against the idea:

There may well be some minor 'pro's but it's essentially the weasel Starmer making yet more noise about tackling illegal immigration without grasping the nettle and imposing more unwanted, unnecessary legislation that will impact on OUR human rights.

They won’t stop illegals because scurrilous employers will employ scurrilous people…ID cards won’t change a thing.
ID cards have always been common in most European countries, but not in thi# country.
Europeans are used to having them especially given their experience during wartime.

Starmer is so good at shooting himself in the foot …it carried on today when he said they would be free, but give him time he’ll try and charge us for it…… anything promoted by Starmer gets the Kiss of Death.
If I was a Labour MP , I’d either be plotting his departure or considering a change of employment options in a couple of years from now.

You make some great points there especially about Starmer being the proposer of the card, Twitter has been full of anti ID card rhetoric with the likes of GB News presenters and Darren Grimes all vehemently against them until Tweets from two or three years ago have them calling for them, the internet always remembers. Are they a good thing I don’t know I don’t know if as the polls suggest this is a one term government the next lot can scrap them or if they make a big difference and actually work maybe that’s what the anti people are against?

Everyday there are new news stories concerning Hackers stealing data. Yesterday on the radio news two of these hot news reports rang out side by side.

1. The government are bringing in digital ID, a persons main personal info (including favourite type of owl) into to one unit base.

2. Hackers steal loads of info about children from a nursery business chain and wreak havoc.

Hmmmm.

And yet another this morning, Harrods customers info hack.

Very good points Mikey, Although i doubt very much Starmer has any say in the matter i believe its way beyond his pay grade, No conspiracy theory.
And if used correctly ID cards are a brilliant idea, But you, me and most people know they WILL be abused.

The process of setting it up will be ‘subbied out’ to a private contractor, the U.K. government hasn’t the facilities nor the man power to do it, step up an American AI company. Haven’t the U.K. governments learned how many times in the past they had their fingers burnt by private companie like PP Medro among others have done.

for me the company running the scheme is of secondary importance to not having it in the first place. more talk there is about that the less the main issue will be discussed.

but in todays world whoever runs it someone will find a reason why they should not be running a system that so many do not want in the first place. still feel its a good side issue for many to take the eye off the ball for the main issue and is a bit of a distraction.

Doubt this is a smoke screen when the likes of Blair/Gates are involved.

Thin end of the wedge, Loads more to come IF implemented.

Police just been given extra powers regarding protests, According to the BBC News

See that purveyor of common sense Gary Neville who thinks he has his finger on the pulse of the nation has weighed in with his take on the flag issue, just what we need some pampered, woke, arrogant millionaire who has lived in a cosseted world all of his life passing on his untold knowledge to one and all.

The fact is that it's not white muddle aged men that is causing division, it's the arrival of so many who are here to foster hatred and division rather than truly integrated. How many of these atrocities have actually been carried out by white muddle aged men? The protests are a reaction, the root cause is radical extremism.

must admit i,d have followed him doing that because of the words. however once he opens his trap its time to use the remote. there will be ex players who think the complete opposite to him but fail to get any air time.
